Description
Honmaru Edojō, a struggling fifth-grader at Nanno Elementary, endures isolation due to poor grades, athletic shortcomings, and mischievous antics. His lewd tendencies and relentless bullying by classmates Jabao Jaba and Korekiyo Ryouguchiya deepen his alienation. He harbors affection for the kind, academically gifted Iyona Kawai, yet frequently faces humiliation around her.

His life shifts dramatically when intense emotional distress accidentally summons Taruruto, a young wizard. Honmaru initially uses Taruruto's unpredictable, temporary magic for shortcuts – gaining edges against bullies or impressing Iyona – leading to comedic mishaps, including occasional gender transformations where he adopts the name Emoto Marue.

Escalating conflicts arise with the arrival of wealthy transfer student Tsutomu Harako, intensifying rivalry, especially for Iyona's affection. Harako's constant challenges ("Let's have a match at [activity]!") push Honmaru into rigorous training across boxing, sumo, soccer, and martial arts. While often magically assisted initially, his growing determination gradually builds physical and mental resilience.

The pivotal introduction of delinquent transfer student Nezo Zakenja creates Honmaru's ultimate rivalry. Nezo attempts to exploit Honmaru's negative emotions to brainwash him during a martial arts tournament, but Honmaru resists, demonstrating newfound inner strength. Their conflict culminates in a deadly battle where Honmaru dies temporarily, leading to a resurrection quest in the magical realm. This experience forces a confrontation with mortality and responsibility, diminishing his reliance on magic.

Following resurrection, Honmaru matures. He navigates ongoing school challenges, including a competition for top student proposed by classmate Rui Ijigawa. While retaining feelings for Iyona, his relationship with Ijigawa evolves into one marked by belligerent sexual tension, expressed through mutual pranks hinting at underlying attraction.

In the concluding arcs, Honmaru graduates elementary school and enrolls at Banno Junior High. At a farewell gathering for the Zakenja siblings, reflecting on his growth, he decides not to summon Taruruto again, acknowledging his hard-won independence and strength. This choice symbolizes his transition from a magic-dependent underdog to a self-reliant individual, while remaining grateful for Taruruto's role.

His family background includes Shogunnosuke Edojō, his energetic father and martial arts mentor, and Chizuru Edojō, his supportive mother. Their influence, particularly his father's training, underpins his perseverance during conflicts.
