Movie
Description
Desslar, absolute ruler of the Gamilas Empire, spearheaded attacks on Earth with radioactive meteorite bombs to render the planet uninhabitable, driven by his civilization's desperate need for relocation. This conflict established him as the primary antagonist opposing the Yamato's maiden voyage to Iscandar, where his strategic brilliance and personal Dessler Gun repeatedly threatened the Earth vessel. He exhibited cultural refinement alongside a nihilistic worldview, berating subordinates while secretly respecting the Yamato crew's tenacity.

Following apparent defeat and near-fatal injury, the White Comet Empire rescued and revived Desslar. He temporarily aligned with them to destroy the Yamato. However, witnessing Yuki Mori's selfless act for Susumu Kodai during a critical confrontation triggered a profound change of heart. He renounced his vendetta against Earth, providing vital intelligence that contributed to the Comet Empire's downfall, then departed with his loyal aide Talan, beginning his redemption.

Later, Desslar led the remnants of the Gamilas people seeking a new homeworld. Returning to Gamilas for a final farewell, he discovered alien invaders desecrating and strip-mining the planet. His intervention inadvertently triggered a catastrophic chain reaction that destroyed Gamilas completely. Witnessing this profound loss deepened his alliance with the Yamato crew when both faced the Dark Nebula Empire targeting Iscandar next. His cooperation solidified, showcasing loyalty to Queen Starsha's memory and newfound respect for Earth's defenders.

During the Bolar Wars, Desslar retained a complex blend of earlier ruthlessness and evolved honor. He threatened retribution against Earth's endangerers while diverting Gamilas resources to aid the Yamato, demonstrating unwavering commitment to their shared survival. This alliance culminated in the final confrontation against the Denguil Empire, who sought to flood Earth using the water planet Aquarius after their own world's destruction. In a decisive act of gratitude and redemption, Desslar sacrificed his remaining forces to annihilate the Denguil armada, enabling the Yamato to save Earth, completing his transformation from genocidal conqueror to guardian of his former enemies.
