Masatō Ibu is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on March 28, 1949. His real name is Satoru Murota. Throughout his career, he has performed under several stage names, including Sen Ibu, Masami Ibu, Masayuki Ibu, and the credit Masato Eve. He is best known for his portrayals of villainous and authoritative characters, a niche he has occupied across both live-action and animated productions for over five decades.

Ibu's career in the entertainment industry began in the late 1960s, with his voice acting work gaining prominence in the 1970s. One of his most iconic and enduring roles is that of the Gamilas Empire leader Desler (also romanized as Desslar) in the seminal Space Battleship Yamato franchise. He first voiced the character in the original 1970s anime series and its film adaptations, such as Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, and later reprised the role for the 2010 live-action film. In the same franchise, he also voiced the character Heikurō Tōdō across multiple series and films, including Star Blazers: The Comet Empire and Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars, demonstrating his range within a single production.

His other major voice roles from this era are extensive and span various genres. He voiced the lead role of Ultraman Joneus in the 1979-1980 television anime The Ultraman. He also played Chūji Shimizu and Gulf in the series Uchu Kubo Blue Noah (Space Carrier Blue Noah). In the anime adaptation of the baseball manga Dokaben, he voiced the character Kojiro Inukai. His work in the 1990s included the role of the Narrator and Yamiko-san in the series Gakkō no Kowai Uwasa: Hanako-san ga Kita!! and the role of Tetsurou Obata in the film Coo: Tōi Umi kara Kita Coo. He also took on the role of Black Jack in multiple productions, including the films Phoenix 2772 - Space Firebird and One-Million Year Trip: Bander Book. His filmography includes the role of Ben in Kaitei Daisensō - Ai no 20,000 Miles, Kakkun in Kakkun Cafe, Dr. Thelbert in Marine Snow no Densetsu, Emperor Blauné in Yamato 2520, and Akuemon in the film of the same name.

While his voice acting career is prolific, Ibu is also a highly regarded live-action actor. He gained international recognition for his role as the stern Sgt. Nagata in Steven Spielberg's film Empire of the Sun. In Japanese cinema and television, he has appeared in numerous films, including Azumi, Godzilla: Final Wars, and Goemon, as well as many taiga dramas such as Fūrin Kazan, Segodon, and Ōoku. As of the 2020s, Ibu remains active in the industry, continuing to take on roles in both film and television.
