Description
Rick Thunderbolt began his career as a minor league racing champion before rising to become Earth’s premier star-racer pilot under Don Wei’s management, securing three consecutive Earth Grand Prix victories until his departure from Wei Racing in 2081. Renowned for his unshakable self-confidence and composed demeanor, he solidified his status as one of Earth’s most accomplished pilots. In 2082, he joined Earth’s team for the Great Race of Ōban but sustained critical injuries when his ship was sabotaged during the opening race, abruptly terminating his racing career.

Forced into retirement, he pivoted to coaching, dedicating himself to mentoring Molly, whose raw talent he swiftly identified. Dubbing her “Little Mouse,” he honed her technical prowess while navigating interpersonal tensions between Molly and Don Wei, ensuring team cohesion. Behind the scenes, he pursued the truth behind his crash, uncovering a trail linking the sabotage to a Scrub agent aligned with the Timeless One. A mysterious stone pendant he recovered triggered a vision of Canaletto, the race’s orchestrator, who confessed his role in the attack before erasing Rick’s memory of their encounter—a revelation that tied the incident to a sprawling galactic power struggle.

His efforts culminated in Earth’s qualification for Ōban’s Grand Finals. Prior to returning home, he encouraged Molly to reconcile with Don Wei, bridging their rift and fortifying the team’s foundation. Canaletto later confirmed Rick’s elimination targeted his unbeatable skill and refusal to claim the Avatar’s crown, which would have thwarted the antagonist’s schemes.

From champion to mentor and investigator, Rick’s resilience shaped the Earth team’s unity and competitive edge, his legacy enduring long after his exit from the race’s spotlight.
