Description
Princess Teronna appears across distinct narratives. In the 1975 film "Uchuu Enban Dai-Senso," she is Princess Teronna (or Telonna), heir to the Yarban Empire throne. As Great King Yarban's daughter, she commands military forces against Earth to capture Duke Freed and reclaim the stolen robot Gattaiger, following Yarban's destruction of their home planet Freed. Teronna wrestles with her military duty to the empire and unresolved romantic feelings for Duke, her former lover. She desires peace and hopes Duke will return with her to rebuild Freed. Ultimately, Teronna dies battling the Yarban commander Blaki, an event deeply affecting Duke and prompting his departure from Earth.
In the "Grendizer U" continuity, she is reimagined as Teronna Aqua Vega, Princess of the Vegan Empire and older twin sister of Rubina. Serving as a Starker Knight, she pilots the Aquadizer robot. Teronna trained alongside Duke Fleed on Planet Fleed, developing unrequited romantic feelings she suppressed upon realizing Duke loved Rubina, sacrificing her own happiness for theirs. A critical incident occurs when Duke, berserk in Grendizer, inadvertently causes destruction on Fleed. Initially believing Duke betrayed them, Teronna pursues him to Earth for vengeance, engaging him in combat.
Teronna's development involves intense conflict and sacrifice. Learning Duke was framed for Fleed's destruction by Cassado (who murdered Duke's parents), she grapples with guilt, loyalty, and unresolved emotions. This culminates in her intercepting Rubina's secret marriage letter to Duke, knocking Rubina unconscious, and impersonating her during the wedding ceremony. After Duke completes the ritual believing her to be Rubina, Teronna reveals her identity in distress, accusing Duke of failing to distinguish between them and forbidding him from approaching Rubina again.
Teronna possesses advanced combat skills as a Starker Knight, excelling in swordsmanship and robot piloting. She demonstrates strategic psychic powers, including telekinesis, used in battle and rescues. Her leadership extends to commanding Vegan military forces during invasions. Protective instincts towards Rubina remain a core motivation, influencing decisions that sometimes conflict with Rubina's choices. As the Vegan-Earth conflict escalates, Teronna navigates her duties, familial bonds, and sacrifices.
The character's original 1975 design inspired later iterations, including Rubina in "UFO Robot Grendizer" and the twin princesses in "Grendizer U," where her likeness and name were directly incorporated.
