Izanagi, a creator deity, formed the islands of Japan with his wife Izanami. After Izanami's death, he informs their young son Susanoo that she has ascended to heaven, stressing the impossibility of retrieving her from the afterlife. He sternly forbids Susanoo from attempting to find his mother, asserting his paternal authority and demanding obedience. Susanoo, however, remains determined to search, leading to a confrontation where he expresses his grief violently before fleeing. Izanagi later discovers Susanoo asleep and questions his actions, reinforcing the futility of the quest. When Susanoo persists, constructing a boat to sail in search of his mother, Izanagi watches helplessly as he departs. He silently observes Susanoo's journey from afar, internally acknowledging his son's stubbornness and the hopelessness of chasing an unattainable dream. Visually, Izanagi features an abstract design of simple geometric shapes, reflecting the film's modernist aesthetic. During Izanami's transition to heaven, her spirit ascends amidst smoke, with Izanagi present but not directly participating in the visual representation of her departure.
