Strongarm serves as an Autobot Omnicon within the Transformers: Energon narrative, focusing on labor over combat. His primary function involves energon mining and refinement, converting raw energon into usable stars and weaponry for the Autobots. This critical role stems from the Omnicons' unique ability to safely handle raw energon, a substance dangerous to most other Transformers. While multiple identical Strongarm units frequently operate simultaneously under shared direction, each possesses an individual mind. Initially reluctant toward combat, declaring "I'm a worker, not a warrior," his operational parameters shift dramatically after significant over-exposure to raw energon alters his physical composition. Approximately 97.76% of his structure becomes pure energon. This transformation grants him the ability to detect energon deposits from vast distances without physical proximity and expands his role to include active conflict. His upgraded motto reflects this change: "There's no such thing as too much energon." Enhanced physical strength accompanies this evolution, reducing his previous hesitation to engage Terrorcons threatening Autobot resources. He wields an energon axe capable of returning like a boomerang when thrown. Despite increased combat effectiveness, his primary focus remains energon processing and logistical support. Within the animated series, Strongarm units consistently perform critical support functions. They locate and secure major energon deposits, such as the significant find beneath Ocean City. Their responsibilities encompass refining raw energon into stars for Autobot power boosts, manufacturing weapons like replicated versions of Megatron's sword for base defenses, operating drilling equipment, and piloting vessels like the Miranda II. They actively participate in constructing and defending Autobot cities and energon towers across locations like Jungle City, Desert City, and Lunar City. Strongarms deploy during pivotal missions, including the attempt to soothe Unicron's core by delivering energon stars under Rodimus's command. While occasionally displaying operational caution, such as refusing to advance within Unicron without sufficient energon, they follow directives when prompted. Their presence spans numerous critical events, from installing planetary defense grids to evacuating damaged facilities under attack. The Dreamwave comic continuity presents a distinct origin. Here, Strongarm is one of only four young Autobot Omnicons, representing a new evolutionary stage nurtured by the Mini-Con Over-Run. Their inexperience leads to diplomatic incidents with Earth governments upon initial deployment, necessitating reassignment to Hot Shot for training. Early missions involve confrontations in harsh environments, such as a battle against Snow Cat in the Canadian wilderness where they overcome captivity through teamwork. Subsequent missions include locating underwater energon sources under Kicker's guidance and facing attacks from Decepticons like Mirage and Sharkticon. Planned storylines involving a confrontation with the resurrected Starscream remained unrealized due to the publisher's closure. Toy pack-in comics further depict Strongarm collaborating with Hot Shot to discover an energon pool, only to face Terrorcons. During the encounter, Strongarm fabricates an energon weapon, enabling their escape despite failing to secure the energon.
