His research tackles energy crises plaguing both Earth and Cybertron, resulting in private-sector energon research programs and concealed cities built using Cybertronian technology, later loosely sanctioned by the Earth Federation through Alexis's intervention. This program stayed hidden for years until the Terrorcon invasion. Driven by eccentric impulses, Jones often laughs inappropriately and displays other socially unconventional quirks. He is married to Miranda Jones, with whom he has two children: Kicker and Sally Jones. His relationship with Kicker is severely strained due to Jones historically treating his son more as a scientific instrument than family. Discovering Kicker's Primus-bestowed energon-sensing ability, Jones repeatedly subjected him to traumatic ordeals. These included dragging Kicker across planets to find energon and once leaving him untethered in space after a line detached, actions that fostered deep resentment in Kicker, though Jones occasionally shows concern for his son in critical moments. During the Terrorcon invasion, Jones worked from Cybertron while coordinating with Optimus Prime. He developed protective battle armor specifically for Kicker and sent it to Earth. Jones later designed pre-constructed energon mining facilities, deploying "Blizzard City" directly onto Terrorcons during a confrontation in the frozen north. His most significant contribution is the Energon Tower network: defensive spires generating energy fields harmless to Autobots but destructive to Terrorcons and weakening to Decepticons. This system protected Earth's energon mining cities and later expanded to Lunar City and other planets. However, Decepticons later repurposed these towers on Cybertron to emit toxic energon gas, damaging Autobots. Jones also created the warp-capable spacecraft Miranda II, equipped with collapsible defense fields derived from his tower technology. Jones demonstrated morally ambiguous resource decisions. He initially hesitated but ultimately complied when Kicker requested Earth's entire energon supply for Cybertron's defense against Unicron, leaving Earth vulnerable. After escaping Decepticon captors during an expedition to a Super Energon pool, he reunited with his family when Omnicons restored Primus. Jones collaborated with Primus to locate Omega Supreme within Cybertron's hidden caverns, subsequently alerting Optimus Prime to the ancient guardian's deployment and arranging delivery of additional energon towers for the battle against Unicron. He later debated the risks of Primus channeling Cybertron's core energon to Optimus Prime, recognizing it would leave the planet defenseless. Following Unicron's defeat, Jones celebrated with his family on Cybertron, soon facing renewed threats when Megatron returned, destroyed evacuation transports, and forced them back into hiding.
