Mega Zarak operates as a powerful Decepticon commander under Megatron. He originated not as a Decepticon, but was created by Alpha Q using the wandering spark of an unknown Decepticon warrior. Alpha Q designed him in the image of a lost Planet Q inhabitant, intending him as a loyal protector. Despite Megatron's reprogramming and brainwashing, Alpha Q believed an underlying loyalty to him remained within Mega Zarak. Following Megatron's orders, Mega Zarak led Terrorcon forces to harvest energon throughout the galaxy. He reported vital intelligence directly to Megatron, such as identifying Alpha Q's energon sun as the head of Unicron, shaping Decepticon strategy. He sometimes faced reluctance from subordinates like Snow Cat and Demolishor during missions. Alpha Q sought to restore Mega Zarak's suppressed memories and allegiance by recreating Planet Q, including a replica of his former palace. He focused energon sunlight onto the planet to guide Mega Zarak and trigger recall. Confronted with the restored palace, Mega Zarak paused, then decisively rejected his past. He ordered Terrorcons to ransack the structure for energon and personally destroyed its towers. During the battle for the reborn Planet Q, Mega Zarak fought Autobot forces, confronting Ironhide inside the palace ruins. Ironhide condemned him for succumbing to Decepticon programming, contrasting him with Inferno who resisted it. Mega Zarak dismissed Inferno's sacrifice as meaningless and asserted Megatron's dominion. He physically overwhelmed Ironhide, declaring resistance futile. Alpha Q intervened directly, weaponizing intense energon sunlight against Mega Zarak. Though momentarily pained, Mega Zarak resisted the beam. This distraction allowed Ironhide to counterattack, landing several blows. Alerted to the Terrorcons' retreat, Megatron ordered Mega Zarak to withdraw. After returning to Unicron's body, Megatron warned him against independent actions. Defeated but not reformed, Mega Zarak continued his service to Megatron. Alpha Q acknowledged Ironhide's valor as reminiscent of Mega Zarak's former self, though Mega Zarak remained under Decepticon control. Ironhide swore to strengthen himself for their inevitable rematch.
