Dr. Brian Jones, humanity's foremost energon expert, holds a degree in physical engineering from MIT. There, he mentored Rad, whose connection to the Transformers later enabled Jones's travel to Cybertron. With loose Earth Federation sanction gained through Alexis's intervention, Jones established hidden Earth cities using Cybertronian technology, concealed until the Terrorcon invasion.
His family consists of wife Miranda Jones and children Kicker and Sally Jones. Jones displays eccentricities like inappropriate laughter and social awkwardness. His relationship with Kicker is severely strained. Jones often treats Kicker more as a tool than a son, primarily exploiting Kicker's unique energon-detecting ability—a gift bestowed by Primus after Kicker fell into Cybertron's core during childhood. Jones dragged Kicker across planets to locate energon, causing Kicker severe phobias and resentment. Despite this, Jones occasionally showed concern, developing a protective battlesuit for Kicker.
Jones's scientifically significant but ethically ambiguous contributions include inventing the Energon Tower defense system. It harnessed energon to generate protective force fields that destroyed Terrorcons and weakened Decepticons. He later adapted this into a collapsible defense field for his spaceship, the Miranda II. Decepticons corrupted Cybertron's towers to emit toxic energon gas, turning his invention against the Autobots. Jones also pioneered pre-constructed, transportable energon mining facilities, deploying one onto attacking Terrorcons. He prioritized scientific objectives over personal safety, endorsing Kicker's use on high-risk missions.
During the Unicron conflict, Jones authorized transmitting Earth's entire energon supply to Cybertron at Kicker's request, leaving Earth defenseless despite Alexis's objections. He justified it as necessary. He later relocated his family to Cybertron, collaborating with Primus to locate the ancient guardian Omega Supreme hidden beneath the surface. Jones facilitated Omega Supreme's deployment and supplied Optimus Prime with energon towers for the final battle against Unicron.
When Decepticons overran Cybertron, Jones, his family, and Rad White hid in ventilation ducts to evade capture. Attempting to contact Primus led them to Cybertron's core. Jones distracted Decepticon forces by accompanying them to a Super Energon pool, escaping during their distraction. Ironhide eventually rescued him, reuniting him with his family. Jones's efforts to halt Cybertron's uncontrolled movement through space were ongoing.
In the Dreamwave comics continuity, Jones served as a special consultant for Alterenergy in Western Australia. During a Terrorcon raid targeting Kicker for his energon-sensing abilities, he dispatched Rad for a rescue. When that failed, he provided Kicker with a battlesuit via the Autobots for protection.
