Originally named Demolishor in English-language media, Irontread served as a Decepticon under Megatron during the *Transformers: Armada* conflict. He demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Megatron, acting as a military tactician and heavy artillery unit. His tank alternate mode and partnership with the Mini-Con Blackout defined his combat role. Though he clashed with allies like Starscream, he intervened on their behalf when it served Decepticon interests.
A decade after the Unicron Battles and Megatron's apparent demise, he obeyed Megatron's final command to cooperate with the Autobots. Stationed as a guard at Earth's Ocean City, he defended against Terrorcon incursions but maintained friction with Autobot personnel, particularly the rookie Ironhide, whom he openly ridiculed. His time alongside Autobots and humans fostered unspoken bonds, creating internal conflict when presented with Scorponok's sword – forged from Megatron's spark – which rekindled his Decepticon allegiance.
During Megatron's resurrection and attack on Ocean City, he initially targeted his former leader but ultimately defected back to the Decepticons. His internal struggle peaked when he sacrificed himself, pushing Megatron clear of the *Miranda II*'s energon grid, resulting in his bodily destruction. Megatron recovered his spark and utilized Unicron's power to rebuild him, assigning the new name "Irontread" in the Japanese continuity (*Superlink*). This reconstruction granted him a dump truck alternate mode equipped with a "Hyper Power" missile launcher and included a mental reformatting that erased memories of his Autobot cooperation while diminishing his intelligence.
Post-rebuild, Irontread adopted a childlike simplicity marked by aggression: easily excitable, prone to grunting, and frequently performing physical displays like backflips or chest-beating. His combat role shifted to frontline brawler, though his reduced cognition hampered effectiveness. He retained a close, fraternal bond with the similarly diminished Snow Cat (the reformatted Cyclonus). In the series' conclusion, he and Snow Cat chose self-preservation, refusing to follow Galvatron into a suicidal plunge toward an energon sun.
