Description
Fanny Moriyama, born to Shinsuke and Shizuko Mine but given up for adoption due to extreme poverty, reconnected with the Mine family as a young adult. A gentle giant, he formed a deep bond with Nozomi Mine, unaware they were not biologically related. Their relationship blossomed into romance until Michiko Nohara's false claim that they shared a biological parent caused Fanny to abruptly end it and move to America, believing he was protecting Nozomi from trauma. The deception was later revealed, enabling their reconciliation.
Fanny showed profound loyalty to the Mine family. He donated blood for Shinsuke during a medical crisis and honored Shinsuke after his death by offering the man's favorite beer at the family altar.
Media adaptations diverge significantly:
- The manga depicts Fanny contracting tetanus after planting an anniversary tree. Michiko deliberately causes a car crash to delay his medical treatment, resulting in his death.
- The anime spares Fanny, omitting this tragedy. He remains present in Nozomi's life, and they confirm their romantic relationship by the story's conclusion.
