Description
Hisui Kagariya, also known as Himiko, originates from the "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR" storyline in the Cyborg 009 franchise. Her background, appearance, and role vary across adaptations, primarily featured in the 2001-2002 anime OVA specials ("GOD'S WAR: Prologue") and Joe Onodera's 2012 manga adaptation.

Initially depicted as the daughter of archaeologist Tobe Kagariya and a university student, Hisui meets Joe Shimamura (Cyborg 009) after Black Ghost's defeat, developing a romantic relationship. This contrasts with Shotaro Ishinomori's original draft where their dynamic was strictly platonic. In the manga, she is tall with long black hair and standard facial features, while her OVA design includes more "mysterious" sparkly eyes. Her personality starts as intelligent and assertive, leading an archaeology team investigating underwater caves near Yonaguni Island. However, she displays manipulative tendencies, using fortune-telling under her alternate persona "Himiko" to coerce politicians into confessing sins.

Himiko emerges as a distinct, dominant personality within Hisui, claiming reincarnation of the ancient Japanese queen Himiko. This entity possesses god-like powers: telepathy to expose truths or compel confessions, telekinesis to inflict physical harm like gouging eyes or exploding heads, and the ability to psychically relocate objects such as Moai statues. As Himiko's influence grows, Hisui's behavior becomes increasingly sadistic; she orchestrates mass suicides and riots in Japan while reveling in worship as a deity. She deliberately isolates Joe by sending him to investigate Easter Island, manipulating him into mental decline through hallucinations and sexual coercion.

Her development peaks during transformation into a stone demon after merging with a Moai statue. This form grants tentacle attacks, bio-energy draining, and a psychic shield that reflects attacks, requiring destruction of both eyes to break. During the Shinjuku battle, Hisui and Himiko clash internally: Hisui expresses concern for her injured father and aids the cyborg team's escape, while Himiko seeks vengeance against Joe for his relationship with Françoise Arnoul (Cyborg 003). This conflict triggers the demon form's instability and self-destruction, resulting in Hisui's sacrificial death.

Adaptation differences are significant. In Onodera's 2012 manga, Hisui's vulnerability stems from her romantic entanglement with Joe and manipulation by Himiko. Ishinomori's unused drafts instead proposed neglect by her father as the catalyst for her susceptibility, with no romantic elements between her and Joe. The OVA version, directed by Jun Kawagoe, incorporates elements from both Ishinomori's notes and Onodera's revisions but omits the explicit sexual coercion and demon transformation.
