Description
Jet Link, designated Cyborg 002, began as an Italian-American teenager ruling a street gang on New York City's West Side. A violent clash with the rival Sharks gang resulted in him accidentally killing a member. Fleeing police, he was snatched by agents of the Black Ghost organization, who offered escape before forcibly converting him into a cyborg.

His cybernetic modifications integrated jet thrusters into his legs, granting flight at Mach 5 speeds. He received an early, less refined prototype Acceleration Module, preceding the version used in Cyborg 009. Later enhancements during the "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR" arc awakened latent psychic abilities, enabling light-speed flight via telekinesis. Physically, he possesses a tall, lanky frame, swept-back ginger hair, and a prominent pointed nose, with his appearance varying across different media.

Initially brash and impulsive, Jet served as a counterbalance to the calmer Cyborg 009 (Joe Shimamura) and the more detached Cyborg 004 (Albert Heinrich). Beneath his abrasive exterior lay deep loyalty to teammates and a strong protective instinct, especially towards children—fueled by guilt over failing vulnerable youth during his gang days. His development revealed underlying trauma from the accidental killing, causing panic when confronted by memories of the event.

Chronologically, cryogenic suspension by Black Ghost in the 2001 anime continuity makes Jet over 50 years old, though he retains the physical appearance of a young adult (approximately 18-22). After escaping Black Ghost, he fought in numerous missions, playing a pivotal role in the "Underground Empire of Yomi" arc. In the original conclusion, he sacrificed himself alongside 009 during atmospheric reentry after rescuing him from the collapsing Demon Statue; fan response led to a revision where Cyborg 001 teleported them to safety.

Later narratives tested Jet further. During the "Chou Ginga Densetsu" film, he forged a close bond with Albert Heinrich (004), confiding in him about the burdens of cyborg existence. Albert's apparent self-sacrifice devastated Jet, triggering an emotional breakdown, later resolved by Albert's return. In the modern "009 RE:CYBORG" setting, Jet utilized his flight capabilities for high-altitude operations as an agent for the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA).

Temporary retirements saw him attempt civilian life, first as a professional American football player and later as a youth counselor in New York. Counseling, he befriended a boy named Jimmy, recounting embellished tales of his adventures. After rescuing Jimmy's mother from a fire, his cyborg identity was revealed, cementing their friendship.
