Description
Pyunma, designated Cyborg 008, hails from the fictional African nation of Muamba Republic. There, he fought in a rebellion against the oppressive dictator Unbaba alongside comrades Kabore and Masmado. Separated from Masmado during a nocturnal skirmish, Pyunma was captured by Black Ghost agents. They forcibly subjected him to extensive cybernetic modifications, installing specialized mechanical lungs. These enhancements grant underwater respiration at any depth and resistance to extreme oceanic pressure, making him adept for aquatic reconnaissance and combat. His prior experience as a guerrilla fighter also provides tactical knowledge in unconventional warfare.
After escaping Black Ghost with fellow cyborgs, Pyunma returned to Muamba during a mission investigating the organization. He reunited with Kabore but learned Masmado had been abducted the same night. Brainwashed into becoming "Number One," Masmado now led Black Ghost's Cyborgmen forces. Faced with his former friend's unwavering loyalty to Black Ghost and the threat he posed, Pyunma was compelled to eliminate Masmado to protect others. This event provided closure to his past while underscoring the personal costs of his transformation.
Later, battling a cybernetically enhanced animal alongside Cyborg 009, Pyunma sustained near-fatal injuries. Dr. Gilmore performed extensive reconstruction, replacing much of his body with a streamlined, scale-covered form optimized for higher underwater speeds and durability. Pyunma initially resisted this alteration, perceiving it as further erosion of his humanity. After counsel from Albert Heinrich (Cyborg 004), he accepted the enhancements and integrated them into his combat role.
In the OVA *Conclusion: GOD'S WAR*, Pyunma received a secondary upgrade from Ivan Whisky (Cyborg 001). This granted him hydrokinetic abilities, enabling mental manipulation of water pressure in his vicinity and within adversaries' bodies, potentially causing internal damage. His physical appearance typically features an athletic build, dark gray skin, a light gray crewcut, and a red double-breasted military uniform with black armbands and a belt holstering a multi-mode firearm.
