Description
Saeko Kodai is the modern human alias of Medusa, an ancient demon originally named Medusa Gorgon from the prehistoric civilization of Sodom over a million years ago, where she was Dante Luther's lover before their transformation. An alien entity proclaiming itself God attacked Sodom, exposing Medusa to destructive psychic energy. This mutated her into a demonic form with snake-like traits, including prehensile hair and a petrifying gaze. The event also created the demon race from Sodom's surviving humans who resisted God's invasion.

In the modern era, Medusa operates under the identity Saeko Kodai, a prestigious supermodel, using this disguise to infiltrate human society. Her mission is to locate and awaken the Demon Lord Dante, imprisoned within Himalayan ice. She possesses enhanced physical abilities, demonstrated by effortlessly defeating motorcycle gangs, and uses telepathy to communicate with Ryo Utsugi—Dante's reincarnated human form. She urges Ryo to embrace his demonic heritage, guiding him through visions of their shared past in Sodom and revealing God's extraterrestrial origins. These visions expose that modern humans evolved from apes infected with God's ectoplasm.

Medusa's unwavering loyalty to Dante drives her actions. In the 2002 anime, she offers to replace Ryo's sister Saori as a captive of the demon Lamia to ensure Ryo's happiness, though he intervenes to rescue her. Later, she sacrifices herself to revive Satan by confronting God's horsemen, resulting in her death. In the *New Demon Lord Dante* manga (2002), she adopts the alias Saori Medou—a Louis Cypher reference—serving as Ryo's college teacher while continuing her efforts to restore his memories.

Her demonic powers include weaponized hair manipulation, a petrifying gaze, and energy projection. She retains vivid memories of her human past, fueling a reincarnation romance arc with Ryo/Dante. In spin-offs like *Devilman Lady*, she appears as a minor character with a similar origin, while *Devilman Grimoire* presents her with a redesign featuring more pronounced serpentine features.
