Description
Originally named Medusa Gorgon, she belonged to the advanced prehistoric civilization of Sodom over a million years ago. There, she was the lover of the brilliant scientist Dante Luther. When an entity proclaiming itself God attacked Sodom, Medusa was exposed to destructive psychic energy. This transformed her into a demonic being with serpentine traits, including prehensile hair resembling snakes and a petrifying gaze. The event also birthed the demon race from Sodom's survivors who resisted God's invasion.

In the modern era, she operates under the alias Saeko Kodai, a prestigious supermodel. Using this identity, she seeks to locate and awaken the imprisoned Demon Lord Dante, frozen in Himalayan ice since their defeat. She possesses enhanced physical abilities and communicates telepathically with Ryo Utsugi, Dante's reincarnated human form. Her mission is to guide Ryo into embracing his demonic heritage, revealing their shared past in Sodom and exposing God's extraterrestrial origins. This includes the truth that modern humanity evolved from apes infected with God's ectoplasm.

Her demonic form features distinctive facial markings, bluish-green mouth innards, and wild, weaponized hair. She can shift between human and demon appearances, fly, and project energy. Her powers encompass creating illusions and turning living creatures to stone with her glare. Her personality blends fierce loyalty to Dante with a cold demeanor toward humans, though she shows compassion in critical moments. For example, she offers to replace Ryo's sister Saori as captive of the demon Lamia to ensure Ryo's happiness, prompting his intervention to rescue her.

In the 2002 anime continuity, she sacrifices herself confronting God's horsemen to revive Satan, resulting in her death. In the *New Demon Lord Dante* manga reboot (2002–2004), she adopts the alias Saori Medou (a reference to Louis Cypher), serving as Ryo's college teacher while continuing her efforts to restore his memories. Spin-offs like *Devilman Lady* feature her with a similar origin as a minor character, while *Devilman Grimoire* presents a redesign with more pronounced serpentine features.
