Description
Kosuke Utsugi serves as Ryo Utsugi's father and a central antagonist throughout multiple narrative iterations. In the original 1971 manga, he leads the God's Association, a religious group devoted to serving God and eliminating demons. Unaware of humanity's true nature as biological vessels for God's essence, he orchestrates assaults against demonic forces, including operations targeting his son.

The 2002 anime adaptation greatly expands his responsibilities. As head of the God's Association, he oversees the covert SX Project, developing artificial demons to provoke public fear of real demons and validate the organization's purpose. This initiative produces rogue prototypes like SX-1—which kills civilians—and SX-2, created via brain transplant. Kosuke personally directs field tests of these entities and manipulates events to advance the organization's objectives.

In the 2002-2004 "New Demon Lord Dante" reboot, his character evolves substantially. Kosuke is revealed as the archangel Uriel, a high-ranking entity in God's forces. Commanding the religious faction "God's Soul," which seeks divine revival, he operates through its demon-hunting division "Guardian Justice." He recruits Sosuke Oshiba and others to exterminate demons while secretly progressing plans to resurrect Adam and Eve as divine weapons.

His relationship with his children drives pivotal story developments. When his daughter Aya—reimagined as Olga's reincarnation—is selected as Eve's vessel, Kosuke enables her transformation despite severe physical and spiritual repercussions. His clash with Ryo escalates after evidence exposes Ryo's link to Demon Lord Dante, compelling Kosuke to fully embrace his Uriel identity in the war against demons.

Kosuke suffers a critical villainous breakdown upon divine revelation of two truths: Ryo is Demon Lord Dante's reincarnation, and Aya has been assimilated into Eve, God's ultimate weapon. This psychological collapse fractures his understanding of both mission and family.

During the final battle across adaptations, Kosuke/Uriel aids in reviving Eve through Aya's body. When God directly possesses Eve mid-conflict, his creation turns against him. Defeated as Dante destroys Eve, Kosuke's fate typically concludes with death or incapacitation in the apocalyptic clash between demonic and divine forces.
