Description
Zuhl, a hunchbacked, single-horned, and toothless scientist, occupies a high-ranking position within the Boazanian Empire’s horned aristocracy, actively upholding its oppressive caste system that subjugates hornless citizens. Dispatched by Emperor Zambajil to aid Prince Heinel in Earth’s invasion, his clandestine objective centers on assassinating the prince to thwart any threat to the emperor’s supremacy. Ruthlessly cunning, Zuhl collaborates with Duke Zaki to engineer Heinel’s downfall, designing biomechanical Beast Knights as weapons. These schemes collapse repeatedly due to interference from Heinel’s aide, Katherine, whose interventions expose his machinations. His overconfidence in his strategic and technological prowess fuels recurring failures, intensifying friction with Heinel.
A critical juncture arises when Zuhl captures Professor Kentaro Goh, aiming to exploit him as a bargaining chip—a plan that unravels, deepening Heinel’s distrust. After numerous botched assassination attempts, Heinel stages a decoy to publicly unmask Zuhl’s treachery. Stripped of standing, Zuhl is forced into an infiltration mission on Earth, during which Heinel covertly attaches explosives to his body. Though the bombs are defused, Zuhl’s ensuing deception to lure the Voltes team into a trap collapses, resulting in his arrest and execution by Heinel’s forces.
In a desperate final act, Zuhl lunges at Heinel with a hidden blade, only to be gunned down. The empire obliterates all traces of his existence as retribution.
In *Voltes V: Legacy*, Zuhl’s live-action portrayal features dark brown skin instead of blue, while retaining his role as Zambajil’s mole. His demise shifts to a direct stabbing by Zardoz (Heinel’s counterpart) post-assassination failure. This adaptation adds nuanced relationships—a camaraderie with Zandra and rivalry with Draco—though his core arc of betrayal and catastrophic defeat mirrors the original narrative.
