TV-Series
Description
Ghigo Saiba, almost universally called Go, is the younger brother of Retsu Seiba, born approximately one year apart. He is easily recognizable by his signature blue hair and blue eyes, and he almost always wears a pair of goggles perched on his forehead, only pulling them down over his eyes for sleeping or during school hours. His racing attire evolves throughout the series, beginning with a yellow vest over a white t-shirt, and later shifting to the sleeveless uniform of the TRF Victorys team, but his iconic goggles and gloves remain a constant part of his look. Physically, he is 120 centimeters tall and weighs 25 kilograms.
In terms of personality, Go charges headlong through life with characteristic impulsiveness, impatience, and a hot-headed nature. This is especially apparent in his racing philosophy, where speed reigns supreme. He prefers to build his Mini 4WD cars for maximum velocity and acceleration, often at the expense of balance and downforce. Initially, he is resistant to the concept of teamwork and often ignores strategic advice during a race, preferring to rely on his own instincts. Despite his brash exterior, he demonstrates a strong inventive skill in car design and the creation of new racing techniques. He also staunchly adheres to the principles of fair play, rejecting any form of dirty tactics, and harbors a deep sentimental attachment to his machines, especially his first original car, the Magnum Saber. Personal quirks include a well-known aversion to heights and a habit of offloading disliked food, such as paprika, onto his older brother Retsu.
Go’s primary motivation is the thrill of high-speed racing and a constant desire to push his cars to their absolute limits. This drive is what leads him to choose the raw speed-focused Magnum series of cars exclusively. His journey begins with a fierce rivalry with his more technically-minded brother, Retsu, and this competitive fire pushes both of them to grow as racers. As the story progresses to the World Grand Prix arc, Go becomes a key member of the TRF Victorys team, representing Japan on the international stage. Within the team, he forms a close friendship with J, the team's technical expert, which proves crucial as they collaborate on designing and tuning his cars. His relationship with teammate Ryo Takaba evolves from an initial rivalry into one of mutual respect and effective teamwork.
Go’s development as a character is marked by his gradual transition from a stubborn loner to a valuable team player. While he initially resists cooperation, his experiences during the World Grand Prix teach him the value of relying on teammates and mechanics to achieve victory. This growth is also reflected in his car designs, which move from pure, uncontrollable speed to more balanced machines that still retain his signature aggressive style. His evolution continues in the sequel series, Return Racers, where it is shown that he has retired from Mini 4WD racing to become a professional racing driver, piloting a BMW Mini convertible. He also takes on the role of a mentor to a young boy named Tsubasa, who wishes to follow in his legacy, thus passing on his knowledge and passion for the sport to a new generation.
Go is best known for his signature racing technique, the Magnum Tornado, which utilizes his cars' low downforce to perform aerial rotations. His career behind the wheel of the Magnum series includes several notable cars. He starts with the Manta Ray Jr. before graduating to the Magnum Saber, his first original machine for which he develops the Magnum Tornado. After the Saber is destroyed, he receives the more stable Victory Magnum, followed by the Cyclone Magnum, which he designs with help from J for the World Grand Prix. His final major car in the original anime is the Beat Magnum, for which he creates the Magnum Dynamite technique, using a spring suspension system for powerful jumps. Later manga entries also list the Lightning Magnum and Bison Magnum among his vehicles, all adhering to his signature blue color scheme and speed-focused design philosophy.
