Description
Jiromaruu Takaba is the younger brother of Ryo Takaba, and the two live a nomadic lifestyle, frequently camping in wilderness areas without adult supervision. Born on March 25, his appearance mirrors his brother's aesthetic, featuring long dark hair, brown eyes, an orange headband, a bright pink shirt, brown gloves, and white and pink shoes. He stands 115 centimeters tall.
Jiromaruu is defined by his unshakable loyalty and passionate admiration for his older brother. He follows Ryo constantly and is highly protective, reacting defensively to any perceived criticism of Ryo. This creates a dynamic of mutual reliance between the siblings. He has a habit of speaking with the distinctive verbal tic dasu instead of the standard Japanese desu, and he affectionately addresses Ryo as anchan, a blend of aniki and oniichan. Outside of racing, Jiromaruu has a notable passion for cooking.
In his role as a Mini 4WD racer, Jiromaruu pilots a car named the Jiromaru Special, a modified Saber 600 that shares design similarities with his brother's Tridagger X. His racing career, especially early on, is marked by a combination of enthusiasm and immaturity. He is prone to frequent destruction of his vehicle during races, establishing an ongoing theme of overcoming setbacks. In an early storyline, Jiromaruu attempts to cheat by rigging a race track to make his own lane easier, but the plan backfires spectacularly, reinforcing the narrative's emphasis on integrity.
Jiromaruu's key relationships are largely defined by his connection to his brother. He frequently clashes with Go Seiba, engaging in mutual mockery that typically stems from competitive dynamics or arguments involving Ryo's abilities and contrasting racing philosophies. His relationship with Retsu and Tokichi Mikuni forms part of his interactions within the TRF Victorys team.
As the story progresses, particularly during the World Grand Prix (WGP) season, Jiromaruu steps into a larger role when he must substitute for an injured Ryo. Before this race, he struggles with crippling stage fright due to the scale of the event. While serving as a team assistant to Dr. Tsuchiya, he gains technical knowledge and experience. Although initially introduced as a central figure, the narrative focus gradually shifts toward his brother and other racers. Years later, in the Return Racers spin-off, Jiromaruu appears as an adult working as a truck driver alongside Ryo, showing his continued resilience and loyalty even as his direct involvement in racing has become minimal.
