Description
Carlos, originally Koji Kabuto in the Spanish localization of *UFO Robo Grendizer*, retains his established history from the *Mazinger Z* series. Orphaned by a laboratory accident that killed his parents, he was raised by his grandfather, Dr. Juzo Kabuto. After Dr. Hell murdered Juzo, Carlos inherited the super robot Mazinger Z, vowing to avenge his grandfather and defend humanity. He later traveled to the United States with Sayaka Yumi to study UFO technology, driven by ambitions of peaceful extraterrestrial contact.

Returning to Japan, Carlos joined the Space Science Laboratory. He initially dismissed Dr. Umon and Daisuke Umon’s warnings about hostile alien intentions. His perspective shifted after encountering Grendizer and learning the true identity of its pilot, Duke Fleed (renamed Daniel in the Spanish dub). This revelation solidified Carlos’ commitment to support Duke Fleed against the Vegan Empire.

In *Grendizer*, Carlos pilots the TFO, a reconnaissance craft with minimal combat capabilities. His impulsive and headstrong nature persists, often leading him into battle without extensive planning. Yet he exhibits increased maturity, embracing collaboration and strategic reasoning more readily than in his *Mazinger Z* days. When the TFO is destroyed, he designs and pilots the Double Spazer, an advanced jet-like machine that attaches to Grendizer to enhance its flight and combat abilities.

Throughout the conflict, Carlos serves in a supportive role. His engineering skills prove vital in developing countermeasures against alien threats, though his machines’ limitations frequently necessitate rescue by Duke Fleed. His relationship with Duke Fleed evolves from friction over combat philosophies to mutual respect and camaraderie. He also forges bonds with the Umon and Makiba families, reinforcing his resolve to protect Earth and pioneer interplanetary peace.

Carlos’ visual design remains consistent: an athletic Japanese teenager with black spiked hair. The Spanish localization alters only his name, leaving his appearance unchanged.
