Description
Regina Starsha (Stasha), queen of Iscandar in the Large Magellanic Cloud, belonged to a nearly extinct race. She became the last Iscandarian following the deaths of her sisters Sasha and Yurisha. Her history revealed the Iscandarians once waged wars using wave-motion energy weapons, converting conquered civilizations into static energy elements stored within the Sanctel repository. Stasha herself underwent the Sanctel ritual, gaining eternal life but becoming trapped in an unchanging existence she grew to despise. This experience drove her to reform Iscandarian philosophy, shifting from forced elemental conversion towards peaceful salvation.

Seeking to alter the relationship between Iscandar and their former slave race, the genetically dependent Garmillans, Stasha initiated contact with the young, rising military leader Abelt Dessler. During a diplomatic visit, she whispered for him to "grow up fast," hoping he would help establish equality. Dessler instead founded the Greater Garmillan Empire as a dictator, launching expansionist wars. Despite maintaining a hotline and pleading for peace, Stasha could not sway him from conquest.

When Earth suffered Garmillan attack, Stasha offered humanity the Cosmo Reverse System to heal their radiation-damaged planet. She sent sister Yurisha with wave-motion engine plans enabling Earth to reach Iscandar, and later dispatched Sasha with the engine's final component; Sasha died en route. Meanwhile, a Garmillan ship crashed on Iscandar carrying Earth officer Mamoru Kodai as a prisoner. Stasha nursed Kodai back to health, developing a romantic relationship and conceiving a child. Kodai ultimately succumbed to his injuries, and Stasha preserved his consciousness as pure energy.

Upon the Yamato's arrival, Stasha refused the Cosmo Reverse System upon learning humanity weaponized wave-motion energy. She tested the crew's worthiness, focusing on Susumu Kodai (Mamoru's brother) and questioning their motives. After witnessing Earth's defenders protect their enemies and reflecting on Mamoru's beliefs, she relented. To activate the system, she transformed the Yamato and herself into energy, merging with Mamoru's consciousness. This sacrifice restored Earth's environment but ended her physical existence.

In later conflicts like the Comet Empire threat, Stasha's legacy influenced events. Her earlier actions—providing technology and fostering alliances—indirectly aided Earth's defenses. Her philosophical reforms and ultimate sacrifice established her as a symbol of redemption for past Iscandarian wars.
