Movie
Description
Latias hails from Alto Mare, a Venice-inspired city, residing with her brother Latios within their hidden sanctuary, the Secret Garden. As descendants of legendary guardians, they protect the Soul Dew, an artifact holding the essence of their deceased father who sacrificed himself to save the city. Latias exhibits an inherently curious and playful nature, often exploring the city unseen or shapeshifting into a human form resembling her friend Bianca, whom she observes closely. Her bond with Bianca enables convincing mimicry, though she remains mute in this guise.

Highly intelligent and emotionally sensitive, Latias understands human speech and detects hostility through telepathy. When threatened, she ruffles her feathers and emits shrill cries to intimidate, typically preferring to vanish using active camouflage. This invisibility stems from refracting light through her glass-like down, which also facilitates her illusion-based shapeshifting. She shares a telepathic link with Latios, allowing silent communication and shared vision.

Her development centers on her relationship with her protective older sibling, Latios. After antagonists Annie and Oakley capture Latios to power Alto Mare's ancient defense, Latias seeks aid from Ash Ketchum, demonstrating growing initiative. Following Latios's sacrificial death stopping a tsunami—a permanent loss altering Alto Mare's guardianship—Latias shows increased maturity while maintaining her compassionate core.

The film concludes with a figure resembling Bianca bidding Ash farewell with a sketch and a kiss, leaving ambiguity over whether it was Latias or Bianca. Beyond the film, Latias appears in games like *Pokémon Mystery Dungeon* and *Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs*, aiding players in travel and exploration. Her Mega Evolution form, introduced in *Omega Ruby* and *Alpha Sapphire*, features a sleeker design while retaining her distinctive yellow eyes.

Her narrative emphasizes familial loyalty and resilience, tracing her path from sheltered guardian to independent protector after her brother's death. The Soul Dew, now containing Latios's spirit, endures as a symbol of their bond and her ongoing duty to Alto Mare.
