Acnologia, known as the Black Dragon, is a central antagonist in the Fairy Tail universe, including the film Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry. He was not born a dragon but originally a human. Over four hundred years ago, he lived as a gentle doctor and healer in a secluded city. After a dragon destroyed his home and killed his family, he became one of the first Dragon Slayers and swore to eradicate every dragon in existence. Consumed by vengeance, he slaughtered dragons mercilessly until he transformed into the very creature he despised. As a dragon, he appears as a colossal black Western dragon with spiraling blue markings, a grey underbelly, feathery wings, and a tail ending in a stinger-like point. His personality became cold and arrogant; he views humans as inferior and declares himself the Dragon King. During the Dragon King Festival, a young girl named Sonya was fatally injured by dragons. Acnologia slaughtered them and promised her he would destroy all dragons. The pink ribbon from her hair later became the magical artifact Dragon Cry, infused with the rage of countless slain dragons. His powers include consuming any form of magic and absorbing the souls of the dragons he kills. He nearly killed Gildarts Clive and clashed with Igneel the Fire Dragon King, who tore off his left arm before being slain. Like all Dragon Slayers, Acnologia suffers from severe motion sickness. In the final battle, he was trapped by Fairy Sphere and destroyed by Natsu Dragneel and the united Dragon Slayers.
