Description
Alfreed, also called Alfarīd, is the daughter of Haltash, the late chieftain of the nomadic Zott Clan, and sister to Merlain. Born in Parsian year 304, she became chieftess following her father's death. Her clan faced a brutal attack by the warrior Silvermask (Hilmes), who killed Haltash and most of her companions. Narsus intervened during this assault, saving Alfreed's life and securing her profound loyalty. Consequently, she joined Prince Arslan's camp, driven primarily by her attachment to Narsus, whom she persistently declares her fiancé despite his repeated rejections.

Alfreed possesses striking red hair, red eyes, and the distinctive red cheek markings common to the Zott Tribe. Her attire typically includes a blue headscarf, a salmon-colored shirt beneath an orange cape, and metal armor protecting her left shoulder and arm. Earlier adaptations depict her with long light red hair instead of short. She excels in horsemanship, archery, and swordsmanship, wielding a light bow and a wave sword in battle.

Her personality is headstrong and tomboyish. She speaks with a rough tongue, often masking considerate intentions behind blunt words. Fearless to the point of overestimating her abilities, she demonstrated this by confronting Hilmes despite being severely outmatched. Alfreed values hard labor, actively assists others, and prioritizes immediate needs over political debates. While initially dismissive of Arslan, she gradually acknowledges his potential for significant change and supports his quest to reclaim Pars.

Key relationships shape her development. Her fixation on Narsus fuels frequent clashes with his young attendant, Elam, though they collaborate on missions when necessary. She respects Farangis as a confidante, discussing personal matters like her relationship with Narsus and occasionally expressing envy toward Farangis's physique. Her hatred for Hilmes remains a driving force due to his role in her father's murder. Although initially following Arslan solely for Narsus's sake, she develops genuine respect for the prince and his vision.

Her background as a Zott clanswoman deeply influences her worldview, emphasizing practicality and tribal loyalty. The name Alfarīd is adapted from the Persian name Gordāfarīd, with alternate renderings including Alfreed or Afarid.
