Description
Naga the Serpent is a supporting character in the anime Slayers Premium, where she appears as a self-proclaimed rival and occasional traveling companion of the protagonist Lina Inverse. Her real name is Gracia Ul Naga Saillune, making her the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Philionel El Di Saillune of the Holy Kingdom of Saillune and the older sister of Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune, though the two siblings never meet during the events of the series. Naga’s background is marked by tragedy: several years before the story, her mother was murdered by the assassin Booley, and a teenage Naga immediately avenged her by killing the assassin with a spell of her own creation called Chaos String. After the funeral, she discovered the distinctive black leather outfit she now wears inside her mother’s closet and soon left home to travel the world and hone her magical abilities.

In terms of personality, Naga is extraordinarily self-confident and often arrogant, with an inflated ego that leads her to believe she is Lina Inverse’s greatest and final rival. She carries herself with the grace expected of a princess, but her behavior is marked by dramatic poses, a famously loud and boisterous laugh, and a tendency to speak to other royalty as an equal rather than a supplicant. She is also vain, greedy, and fond of good food and alcohol, and she possesses a notable lack of common sense that frequently causes her own spells to backfire. Despite her regal airs, she can be clumsy and is particularly susceptible to fainting at the sight of blood, a result of the trauma of witnessing her mother’s death. Her motivations center on besting Lina in a duel to claim an invented title, but she often follows Lina around more out of obsession than genuine rivalry, and she is just as likely to assist her archrival as to oppose her, especially if treasure or personal gain is involved.

In Slayers Premium, Naga serves as a supporting figure who frequently adds comic tension to Lina’s adventures. The pair often end up on opposing sides due to Naga’s capriciousness, but they also cooperate when necessary, forming an effective if irritable team. Their relationship is characterized by Lina’s dismissive and often abusive treatment of Naga, contrasted with Naga’s oblivious and resilient nature; she rarely takes offense and simply laughs off most setbacks. Despite her self-centeredness, Naga has saved Lina’s life on occasion, and the two maintain a grudging mutual reliance that persists throughout the movie. The character shows little development over the course of Slayers Premium, remaining consistently flamboyant, reckless, and supremely confident in her own abilities.

Regarding notable abilities, Naga is a highly talented sorceress with expertise in multiple magical disciplines. She is well versed in black magic, white magic, and shamanistic magic, with a particular affinity for spells of earth, water, and ice. One of her favorite offensive spells is Freeze Arrow, and she enjoys creating golems, though her creations often turn out poorly. She can also conjure dragons and is capable of casting healing magic, though she uses white magic sparingly. Naga carries a large magic sword, but it is purely for show; her aversion to blood prevents her from using it offensively, so she employs it only for blocking and parrying. Her magical power is considerable, and she is arguably Lina’s most potent rival, even if her impulsiveness and tendency for careless spellcasting undercut her effectiveness in combat.
