OVA
Description
Princess Gracia Ul Naga Saillune, known as Naga the Serpent, is the first daughter of Crown Prince Philionel El Di Saillune and older sister of Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune. Witnessing her mother's murder by the assassin Booley as a teenager, Gracia retaliated using her mother's Chaos String spell, killing Booley. This event triggered severe hemophobia, causing her to faint at the sight of blood. Shortly after the funeral, she discovered her mother's distinctive black leather outfit in a closet, adopted it, and left home under the alias "Naga the Serpent" to pursue magical knowledge. Despite her departure, she maintained contact with Saillune and occasionally received living expenses via messengers. Her royal lineage remains unstated in-series but is suggested through her demeanor, personal coat of arms (a white serpent), and remarks by others.

Naga possesses a tall, voluptuous figure, dark hair (depicted variably as purple, violet, or black), and blue eyes. She intentionally contrasts her appearance with fellow sorceress Lina Inverse, flaunting her physique in a revealing outfit featuring oversized spiked spaulders, often irritating Lina. Her personality combines extreme self-confidence, arrogance, and a lack of common sense. Significant character flaws include greed for money and magical treasures, excessive drinking, and a tendency for ill-considered spells that backfire. Her signature trait is an obnoxiously loud, noblewoman-style laugh ("Ooh-hohohohoho!"), capable of incapacitating bystanders and clearing towns. She proclaims herself Lina's "greatest, strongest, and final rival," though their relationship fluctuates between antagonism and reluctant partnership, often driven by financial gain or mutual survival. Naga is frequently perceived as Lina's sidekick, a perception that annoys her.

Magically, Naga rivals Lina in power, possessing greater potential magical capacity according to series creator Hajime Kanzaka. She specializes in shamanistic magic—particularly earth, water, and ice spells like Freeze Arrow, Freeze Rain, and Void Breath—and demonstrates high proficiency in white magic for healing and protection, unusual given her personality. She also employs black magic and creates original spells such as Bogardic Elm and Gu Ru Dooga. However, arrogance often leads to flawed spell execution. She enjoys crafting golems, though they frequently malfunction. Her blood phobia prevents her from using her large sword beyond defensive blocking. Additional quirks include controlling jellyfish, unexpected competence in hand-to-hand combat, cooking, and artistry.

In "The Book of Spells" OVA, Naga's dynamic with Lina is central. "The Scary Chimera Plan" sees her alternating between aiding and undermining Lina against sorcerer Diol, who creates ten imperfect Naga clones possessing her laugh and physique but lacking her memories or magic, leading to chaotic scenarios where Naga inadvertently becomes their leader. "Jeffrey's Knighthood" highlights her greed and impulsiveness when she and Lina accept a job to groom a timid noble into knighthood; her hemophobia surfaces when Jeffrey draws blood. "Mirror, Mirror" features a magical mirror creating "Shadow Naga," a clone with Naga's appearance but a timid, modest personality opposite to her own.

Beyond the OVA, Naga appears in multiple Slayers films and the series "Evolution-R" as "Nama," a suit of living armor housing Naga's soul with fragmented memories. As Nama, she retains Naga's laugh, ice magic, and key traits like rage toward assassins and distraction by gold. Xelloss implies recognition of her true identity, and she expresses sisterly feelings toward Amelia. Despite shared appearances in games and radio dramas, Naga and Amelia never directly interact as sisters in core media; Naga typically hides her identity or is separated before recognition occurs.
