Operating under the alias Takeshi Yoroi, which masks his true identity as Takeshi Onigawara, he serves as an assistant at the Kuruma Detective Agency. This role provides cover for his activities as the vigilante Hurricane Polymar. His background includes rigorous training with the International Secret Police Agency, where he mastered the Illusionary Destruction Fist (Ha Ri Ken) style and earned third-dan black belts in judo and karate. Conflicting ideologies on crime-fighting, however, led to his disownment by the agency's director—his father, Toragoro Onigawara. Takeshi wields the Polymar abilities through a specialized suit made of "polymet," an artificial polymer-metal hybrid. This suit remains hidden within an ordinary motorcycle helmet until activated. Upon transformation, the polymet grants enhanced strength, high-speed rotation, and the power to morph into five distinct vehicles: a supersonic jet (Hawk), submarine (Grampus), drill tank (Drill), race car (Machine), and steamroller (Roller). The suit operates magnetically, functioning for precisely forty-six minutes and one second before risking lethal hyperthermia. It also deactivates below -50°C and remains vulnerable to high-voltage electricity. In the original continuity, Takeshi obtains the polymet from Dr. Oleger, a scientist targeted by the Onitokage syndicate. Though Takeshi rescues Oleger from an attack, the scientist perishes in his lab's destruction, entrusting the polymet to Takeshi with his final breath. This cements Takeshi's commitment to fighting crime independently as Polymar while maintaining his civilian guise as a seemingly clumsy assistant. His dual life creates tension, particularly with fellow assistant Teru Nanba, who admires Polymar but dismisses Takeshi. Only his pet dog Baron recognizes both identities. The 1996-1997 OVA *Shin Hurricane Polymar* offers a reimagined origin. Here, Takeshi receives the completed polymet suit via posthumous delivery from Ryoko Nishida, a former classmate and research assistant to polymet developer Dr. Orega. After Ryoko's death during a Cat Shark Gang attack on their facility, Takeshi investigates her killing and the polymet's purpose. This version depicts him freeloading at Joe Kuruma's agency and introduces key family elements: Takeshi is the youngest of three Onigawara brothers, with his eldest brother Tomoru mysteriously vanished. His relationship with his father is intensely strained due to suspicions of paternal involvement in Tomoru's disappearance. Volume 2 of the OVA introduces a rival polymet suit developed independently, leading to direct conflict ("Polymar vs. Polymar"). A planned resolution in a third volume was never released. The 2017 live-action film presents another variation. Takeshi Yoroi is a former street fighter turned detective who reluctantly reactivates the original red Polymar suit using a specific voice code. His involvement stems from a police effort to recover three stolen prototype suits exploited by criminals. While retaining the core agency setting with characters like Joe Kuruma and Teru Nanba, this iteration emphasizes Takeshi's initial distrust of law enforcement and his eventual collaboration with Rei Hieda, a polymet technology researcher. Across all iterations, the character consistently demonstrates deductive intelligence and combat proficiency even without the polymet suit. The name "Hurricane Polymar" incorporates wordplay, merging "hurricane" with "polymer" while phonetically echoing his martial arts style (Ha Ri Ken).
