Description
Beezle, known as Akuma-kun in the original Japanese, is a demon character from Osamu Tezuka's *Unico* franchise. Initially isolated and antagonistic, he lives alone in a desolate place after the destruction of his father's statue. This isolation fuels rude and selfish behavior upon meeting Unico; he rejects friendship and demands Unico's horn in exchange for companionship. Beezle bullies Unico, engaging in rough play that accidentally sends Unico into the ocean, nearly causing drowning.

Despite his demonic nature, Beezle strictly honors promises. After agreeing to return Unico's horn by day's end, he enters the ocean to revive the unconscious Unico, upholding his word. This act becomes a turning point, revealing latent loyalty. Following the rescue, Beezle experiences a significant shift, recognizing his loneliness and developing genuine care for Unico. Unico grants Beezle his own horn as a token of their bond, symbolizing friendship and triggering Beezle's joyful transformation; his happiness manifests as life sprouting across the barren island.

Beezle reappears during Unico's confrontation with Baron de Ghost. Witnessing Unico critically injured and deprived of his horn, Beezle performs a pivotal act of self-sacrifice. He removes the horn Unico gifted him and uses it to restore Unico's power, directly enabling Unico's victory. This underscores Beezle's complete evolution from solitary antagonist to devoted ally motivated by love and loyalty.

His physical design varies across adaptations: the manga depicts black hair and a green body, while the 1981 anime film features dark brown hair and a blue body. Abilities include summoning minor storms with lightning in the anime and demonstrating notable physical sturdiness. Beyond the core manga and 1981 film, Beezle appears in ancillary media like the 2012 mobile game *Great Brawl!! Tezuka All-Stars* and LINE stamp sets. His character also inspired the 2021 song "Beezle" by Mr Twin Sister.
