Cheryl Chase

Description
Cheryl Chase is an American voice actress recognized for her extensive work in animation, with a career that began in the early 1980s and includes a significant number of roles in English-dubbed anime. Born Cheryl Hudock on December 25, 1958, in Manville, New Jersey, she launched her career in voice acting with some of her earliest roles being in Japanese anime series that were localized for English-speaking audiences. One of her first forays into this field was providing the voice for the character Pinky in the 1984 anime series Noozles.

Throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, Chase became a recurring voice in English adaptations of anime, often produced by companies like Streamline Pictures and Harmony Gold. She is notably recognized for her role as the voice of Mei Kusakabe in the Streamline Pictures English dub of the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro. Her work in this era also includes voicing Sachi in the anthology film Neo-Tokyo, which was released in an English version by ADV Films. Additionally, she lent her voice to early English adaptations of popular anime, such as providing the voice for Puar in Harmony Gold's initial, unauthorized English dub of Dragon Ball. Another notable role from this period was voicing the character Beezle in the English dub of the Sanrio fantasy film The Fantastic Adventures of Unico. Her involvement with Unico continued as she also voiced one of the crying demon children in its sequel, Unico in the Island of Magic.

While her contributions to anime voice acting form a substantial part of her early career, Cheryl Chase is most widely known for her long-running role as the voice of Angelica Pickles on the immensely popular Nickelodeon series Rugrats. She began voicing the character in 1991 and continued in the role across numerous television episodes, three feature films, and the spin-off series All Grown Up! for over a decade. This performance became her signature role, earning her widespread recognition in the animation industry. In recognition of her work, the character of Angelica Pickles was ranked number seven on TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time" in 2002. Her career also includes a variety of other voice work in series such as The Ren & Stimpy Show, as well as providing baby sounds for the film Addams Family Values.
