Description
Sachi, a young girl residing in an old baroque-style house, serves as the protagonist in the "Labyrinth Labyrinthos" segment of the 1987 anthology film *Neo Tokyo*. She embarks on a surreal journey through a dreamlike labyrinth while searching for her missing black-and-white cat, Cicerone. Demonstrating persistent curiosity and fearlessness, Sachi discovers Cicerone near a grandfather clock and follows him through a mirror into an otherworldly realm.

This labyrinth shifts perspectives and environments, featuring narrow alleyways with wooden fences, ghostly masked children, a train of red skeletons, and a parade of identical men in suits bearing ticking clocks on the backs of their heads. Sachi wears a red-and-white striped shirt and oversized trousers cinched at the waist. During her exploration, she interacts with transformative objects like her mother’s lipstick, using it to draw whiskers on her cheeks rather than emulate adult femininity.

A recurring clown figure guides Sachi, beckoning her deeper into the labyrinth toward a dilapidated circus tent within a desolate, post-apocalyptic landscape. The environment reacts to her presence: toys, fans, and wind-up musical clowns animate, often menacing Cicerone. Sachi encounters unsettling phenomena—colorless, stooped human figures that transform into cardboard cutouts and dissolve into ink-black ooze—yet responds with occasional giggles or shrugs, remaining largely unafraid. Her journey culminates at the circus tent, where she and Cicerone enter under the clown’s encouragement, stepping into a spotlight center ring as red curtains open.
