Description
Merrill "Benten" Yanagawa is an albino serving a 295-year prison sentence with a 0.008% parole chance. His criminal record spans murder, assault, currency and ID forgery, embezzlement, public property damage, and aviation, space, and criminal regulation violations. Incarcerated in an orbital penitentiary, he was recruited into the Cyber Police unit under Chief Hasegawa's supervision to reduce his sentence. A condition of his release is an explosive collar detonating if missions overrun or if tampered with.

Physically androgynous with effeminate features, he endures jokes about his appearance from colleague Sengoku. His primary weapon is monowire concealed in his right ring finger, capable of slicing tool-grade steel and human flesh. Combined with natural agility and acrobatic skills, this makes him lethal in close combat. He is also a trained sniper, accurately hitting moving targets even in direct sunlight.

Beyond combat, he practices astrology, interpreting celestial alignments as omens, usually foreboding. His calm, meticulous demeanor contrasts with his colleagues' volatility. While investigating the murders of three geneticists, he uncovers Shūzō Saionji's scheme to achieve immortality using a vampirism-inducing virus. During this, he encounters Remi Masuda, a young woman transformed into a psychic vampire through involuntary experimentation.

He forms a connection with Remi, engaging in philosophical discussions about starlight, eternity, and fate in her cherished park. His investigation culminates in a confrontation with Saionji, who injects himself with the virus, gaining regeneration, teleportation, and psionic powers. After a battle involving explosive decompression and dismemberment fails to stop Saionji due to his healing, Yanagawa administers an antidote developed by colleague Gogul, causing Saionji to rapidly age and die. He ensures Remi returns to cryogenic stasis, honoring her wish to be sent into space due to terminal illness.

His background includes a partnership with Kelley Takakura, a masculine-presenting woman involved in criminal activities.
