Jin Kiryu acts as guardian and caretaker for Lan Komatsuzaki, assuming responsibility for her upbringing after she was orphaned. He pursues a professional career as a novelist. Jin becomes aware of Lan's latent esper abilities and reassures her they are a gift, not a curse, offering emotional stability amidst her concerns over Sonnet Barge's arrival at school.

When unusual events escalate following Sonnet's appearance, Jin initiates an independent investigation into the Azumi Group. His research uncovers their involvement in psychic research and cyborg technology, linking them to the shadowy organization Talon. This investigation forces him to leave town temporarily, creating an opening for Talon agents to target both him and Lan.

Talon operatives, led by Dr. Merikus, subsequently abduct Jin. During his captivity, he witnesses Lan undergoing forced medical procedures aimed at harvesting her ovum for cloning experiments intended to create an army of espers. Imprisoned, Jin becomes a focal point for rescue efforts orchestrated by Wataru Komatsuzaki, Shūichi "Bird" Torigai, and the esper Yuri Onagara.

His narrative centers on his protective role toward Lan and his efforts to expose Talon's operations, culminating in his direct victimization by the organization.
