OVA
Description
Lan Komatsuzaki's origins trace to a plane crash shortly after her birth, leaving her orphaned and raised by wolves for five years until human society intervened. Novelist Jin Kiryu adopted her, aware of her unique nature.

Her latent esper ability, "Crimson Fang," manifested subconsciously during distress or danger. Early incidents involved deflecting a falling building sign and telekinetically redirecting a race car during an accident—an act that inadvertently injured her younger brother, Wataru Komatsuzaki. A subsequent blood transfusion she provided led Wataru to suspect he developed secondary esper traits. These powers first surfaced in response to perceived threats from Sonnet Barge, a cyborg-esper sent to observe her.

She shares a close bond with Jin Kiryu, who reassured her that her abilities weren’t monstrous. At Ōsei Academy, she befriends Naru Haibara, a library worker harboring a crush on Jin’s son, Daisuke Kishima. Lan also connects with delinquent Shūichi Torigai (nicknamed Bird), though their interactions remain limited before his death and transformation into a cyborg.

Conflict escalates when Talon’s Dr. Josef Merekes targets her Crimson Fang potential. She is kidnapped and confined at a Talon facility, enduring traumatic procedures including forced ovum extraction for cloning. Held in a disposal unit among deceased fetuses, this captivity symbolizes the violation of her humanity.

Her development centers on retaining humanity while controlling Crimson Fang’s rage—a struggle intensifying as Talon’s invasions grow. This galvanizes her resolve to resist, aided by allies including Bird, blind esper Yuri Onagara, and Wataru.

Her arc remains unresolved in the OVA adaptation, leaving her fight against Talon and the tension between her human identity and Crimson Fang incomplete. The manga source material continues her journey beyond the animated version.
