Description
Pirotess, first appearing in the Record of Lodoss War OVA, is a dark elf assassin dispatched to kill Ashram. Instead, she pledges unwavering loyalty to him. This devotion leads her to sacrifice herself, shielding Ashram from a fire blast on Fire Dragon Mountain, an act resulting in her death. Later narratives revise this event, depicting her survival to accompany Ashram and the Marmo people seeking a new homeland.

Traveling to Crystania, Ashram forges a pact with the god Barbas, trading his body for land. Pirotess, now called Sheru, guards Ashram's physical form within Berudia Castle. She waits for his return for three centuries, steadfastly believing in his awakening despite others losing hope.

When Barbas torments Ashram's soul in the Chaos World, Sheru actively pursues his freedom. She secures the Chaos Ring and allies with members of the Fang of the Animal, including Boakes and Jenoba. Her mission intersects with Prince Redon of Da'nan, who seeks vengeance for his slain parents. Initially resistant, Sheru accepts Redon's aid after an attack by Barbas's forces forces them together.

Infilitrating Dayton Castle, Sheru attempts to free Ashram's body using the Chaos Ring. Confronted by Barbas possessing Ashram, she obeys Ashram's own command: reluctantly killing his physical form to release his soul from Barbas's control. This deeply painful act fulfills her liberation mission but leaves her without her lord.

Barbas's continued torment of Ashram's soul compels Sheru to seek further help. Guided by visions, she journeys to Butterfly Town and enlists Yoof to enter the Chaos World. Within that realm, she endures intense mental anguish and bloody visions yet persists. Later, with Redon, she enters Ashram's heart-castle, finding him battling an illusion of his former rival Beld. To reawaken Ashram's memories, Sheru performs a drastic act: lifting Ashram's heavy sword, Soul Crusher, and plunging it into her own thigh. The sight of her injury jolts Ashram's memory, freeing him from Barbas's illusion.

Ultimately, Ashram's soul is summoned back to defeat Barbas permanently. Following this victory, Sheru is last seen kneeling before Ashram's restored body in Berudia, her centuries-long devotion unshaken after enduring profound loss and hardship to secure his freedom.
