Description
Muhammad Avdol was born in 1960s Cairo, Egypt, a natural Stand user manifesting Magician's Red from birth. His early life was marked by tragedy: his father perished shielding soldiers from a grenade blast in the Six-Day War, and his mother was killed by Palestinian militia gunfire while protecting a young girl. Orphaned, he lived in Cairo's slums but avoided criminality, influenced by his parents' heroism. He earned his living reading fortunes in the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, specializing in tarot cards. Before Stardust Crusaders, he encountered and partially tamed the Stand-wielding dog Iggy in New York and met Joseph Joestar. Joseph warned him about the vampire DIO, a warning that proved critical when Avdol encountered DIO outside his fortune-telling shop four months later; he narrowly escaped after confirming the threat.

Avdol accompanied Joseph to Tokyo to recruit Jotaro Kujo. He initiated a confrontation to demonstrate Stand abilities, triggering Jotaro's awakening of Star Platinum, which Avdol named after the Star tarot card. He identified the fatal Stand manifestation afflicting Holy Kujo and confirmed DIO's location in Egypt from a fly in a spirit photograph, prompting the group's journey.

During the journey, Avdol served as tactical advisor and combatant. In Hong Kong, he dueled Jean Pierre Polnareff under DIO's influence, defeating him with Magician's Red's fire manipulation, including techniques like Cross Fire Hurricane. After Jotaro removed DIO's flesh bud, Avdol accepted Polnareff as an ally. In India, Polnareff recklessly pursued J. Geil. Avdol intervened to save him from Hol Horse and J. Geil's combined attack, resulting in Avdol being stabbed by Hanged Man and grazed by Emperor's bullet. His survival was concealed during recovery. He later resurfaced disguised as his father in the Red Sea to save Polnareff from Cameo and the Stand Judgement, incinerating Judgement's clay clones and defeating Cameo.

Reaching Egypt, Avdol advocated for Iggy's inclusion. He faced N'Doul and the water Stand Geb, using his bracelet to simulate footsteps. Though N'Doul wounded Avdol's throat, he recovered swiftly. Later, he and Joseph battled Mariah and her magnetic Stand Bastet, crushing her between metal objects. He abstained from challenging D'Arby the Gambler, acknowledging Jotaro's better suitability. During the assault on DIO's mansion, Avdol, Polnareff, and Iggy were separated. After defeating the Stand user warping the mansion, they encountered Vanilla Ice and Cream. Avdol detected Cream's approach and pushed Polnareff and Iggy out of its path, sacrificing himself and disintegrating.

Avdol presented as serious, responsible, and image-conscious, acting as the group's voice of reason. He prioritized caution and strategy, reflecting his role as Joseph's second-in-command and the oldest member after Joseph. Despite this, he exhibited moments of panic. He possessed a strong sense of duty and loyalty, willing to sacrifice himself for allies, especially Polnareff. His personality had a jovial side, particularly after rejoining post-recovery, engaging in boisterous laughter and playful antics. He expressed confidence in Magician's Red's power, often boasting about its capabilities and using his signature thumbs-up gesture accompanied by "Yes, I am! Tch! Tch! Tch!".

Magician's Red was a humanoid Stand with a bird-like head. Its primary ability was pyrokinesis, generating and manipulating flames obeying Avdol's will rather than natural laws. The flames could be shaped precisely, controlled in intensity, and imbued with supernatural properties. Key techniques included:
- **Cross Fire Hurricane**: Projectile ankhs fired from Magician's Red's mouth, capable of splitting for wider coverage or having their trajectory manipulated mid-flight.
- **Red Bind**: Flames used as binding ropes capable of restraining limbs or suffocating targets by consuming nearby oxygen.
- **Life Detector**: A cruciform heat radar detecting enemy presence within 15 meters by sensing heat signatures and Stand energy, ineffective against interdimensional threats like Cream.
Magician's Red exhibited significant physical strength and speed. Avdol used flames for diverse applications like creating decoys, forging tools, or reconnaissance. The Stand represented the Magician tarot card, symbolizing beginnings, aligning with Avdol often acting first in critical situations.

Avdol maintained a long-standing friendship with Joseph Joestar. With Jotaro Kujo, their relationship evolved from initial conflict to mentorship. His bond with Jean Pierre Polnareff was complex, fostering deep camaraderie despite Polnareff's impulsiveness after Avdol saved him multiple times. His interactions with Iggy involved capturing him in New York and later opposing his recruitment, though Iggy sought to avenge him. Avdol's Egyptian heritage symbolized the "birthplace of civilization".

A light novel, *Iggy the Stray Dog*, explores Avdol's backstory and early encounter with Iggy. A similarly named character, Urmd Avdul, appears in *Steel Ball Run* as an unrelated minor antagonist. Avdol's legacy endures through his thematic emphasis on sacrifice, loyalty, and cultural representation.
