Description
Muhammad Avdol operates as an Egyptian fortune teller from Cairo's Khan el-Khalili bazaar, introduced during the series' third part. Born with a Stand ability, he utilized divination for his livelihood and commanded extensive esoteric knowledge, particularly in tarot symbolism and Stand lore. His commitment to confronting the resurrected DIO originated four months before the main events, when a warning from Joseph Joestar allowed him a narrow escape from an initial encounter with the vampire.
Avdol typically displays a serious, responsible demeanor, acting as the group's voice of reason. He prioritizes caution and strategic planning throughout the journey to Egypt, driven by a strong sense of duty and loyalty. Despite his usual composure, unexpected situations can trigger panic, and his emotional temperament surfaces when his loyalty faces challenge. Conversely, high spirits reveal a capacity for joviality and boisterous laughter, contrasting his reserved image. He confidently showcases his Stand's power, often with a distinctive thumbs-up gesture and the phrase "Yes, I am!"
His Stand, Magician's Red, manifests as a humanoid figure generating and manipulating intense flames with exceptional precision, flames that obey his will completely. Avdol demonstrates mastery, shaping fire into complex forms like numbers or binding ropes, creating fire-based radar systems, and finely controlling heat intensity. Magician's Red embodies the Magician tarot card, symbolizing beginnings – a theme reflected in Avdol often being the first to act critically. His knowledge of other Stand users and local cultures aids the group, though this knowledge has limits.
Avdol first appeared alongside Joseph Joestar in Japan to assess Jotaro Kujo's Stand potential, naming Jotaro's Stand 'Star Platinum' based on tarot symbolism. He actively recruited allies, defeating Jean Pierre Polnareff in Hong Kong before Jotaro removed DIO's controlling flesh bud, enabling Polnareff to join. Traveling together, Avdol frequently advocated for caution, especially regarding Polnareff's impulsiveness.
In India, Polnareff's recklessness precipitated an ambush by J. Geil and Hol Horse. Avdol intervened to save Polnareff from Hol Horse's bullet, resulting in a forehead graze and a back stab that left him unconscious but alive. His survival was concealed from Polnareff to protect him during recovery. He later resurfaced disguised as his father, dramatically revealing himself to save Polnareff from the Stand user Cameo, defeating the enemy before fully rejoining the group.
Reaching Egypt, Avdol contributed to battles against various Stand users. He employed clever tactics against N'Doul, simulating footsteps in the sand using his bracelets to mislead the blind Stand user, and survived an encounter with N'Doul's Stand, Geb, despite injury. Later, affected by Mariah's magnetic Stand alongside Joseph, they defeated her through forced collaboration. He wisely avoided gambling against Daniel D'Arby due to his emotional nature.
Inside DIO's mansion, Avdol, Polnareff, and the dog Iggy separated from the others. After navigating the mansion's warped structure and defeating the responsible Stand user, they encountered Vanilla Ice. Alerted to danger, Avdol pushed Polnareff and Iggy from the path of Vanilla Ice's Stand attack, sacrificing himself and suffering complete disintegration. This act of self-preservation for his comrades marked his final demise. His narrative arc concludes within this storyline.
