Description
Vanilla Ice stands as the primary antagonist in Stardust Crusaders' final arc. He possesses a tall, muscular build and long, wavy hair reaching his collarbone or shoulders, often featuring a distinct lighter streak. Heart motifs consistently decorate his attire: metallic heart-shaped earrings, a forehead circlet with a heart locket, and a large "VI" insignia over a heart on his right breast. He typically wears a long-sleeved or sleeveless leotard beneath a dark, open leather vest featuring a tail-like extension, paired with mid-calf boots. His hair, eyes, and outfit colors vary across adaptations, ranging from light blue or white hair to brown or purple, with outfits appearing in shades of blue, purple, maroon, or indigo.
His personality centers on fanatical, absolute loyalty to DIO. This devotion compels him to decapitate himself using his Stand, Cream, to fill an urn with his blood when DIO suggests needing it. DIO declines the blood but revives him as a vampire, deepening Ice's servitude. Though normally calm and strategic, Ice erupts into extreme rage if DIO is disrespected, abandoning rational tactics for brutal physical retaliation. He beats Iggy nearly to death after the dog creates a sand replica of DIO, perceiving it as an unforgivable insult. He also displays occasional absentmindedness, like destroying walls with Cream instead of using doors.
Cream, his Stand, manifests as a humanoid figure with destructive power. Its primary ability allows it to swallow both itself and Vanilla Ice, transforming into a spherical void that disintegrates all matter it contacts. While in this void form, Cream is invulnerable, invisible, and undetectable by senses like smell or air currents. However, the void blinds Ice, forcing him to briefly emerge to navigate. Cream can also access an alternate dimension, enabling stealth attacks. After DIO revives him, Ice gains standard vampiric traits: enhanced strength, speed, durability, rapid regeneration, and immortality, countered by a fatal weakness to sunlight.
Introduced as a human reporting to DIO, Ice proves his loyalty through self-decapitation. DIO resurrects him as a vampire using his own blood, tasking him with eliminating the Joestar group. Ice ambushes Muhammad Avdol, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Iggy, killing Avdol instantly when he sacrifices himself. During the ensuing pursuit through DIO's mansion, Ice uses Cream's void form to erode the building and inflict severe injuries on Polnareff, including partial loss of his foot, hand, and cheek. Iggy's sand replica of DIO provokes Ice into a violent frenzy, leading him to mortally wound the dog. Polnareff temporarily "kills" Ice by impaling his head and snapping his neck, but Ice's vampiric regeneration revives him. Polnareff deduces his new weakness and lures him into sunlight, disintegrating him.
In the non-canon 1993 OVA adaptation, Ice's actions and death differ slightly. He slices Iggy in half and kicks the body against a wall. Polnareff kills him by stabbing him repeatedly and bisecting his head, omitting the sunlight weakness. Video game appearances expand his portrayal. In *Heritage for the Future*, he serves as a sub-boss or playable character, utilizing Cream's void form in attacks like spiraling trajectories or screen-covering assaults. His story mode depicts him defeating multiple Joestar members before facing Jotaro Kujo. *All-Star Battle R* retains these elements, adding vampiric abilities like health-draining grabs and a "Rumble Mode" that enhances his power when injured. Both games include references to key manga moments, such as Avdol's disintegration. The *JoJo RPG* for Super Famicom positions him as the penultimate boss, fought by the entire Joestar group simultaneously without canonical deaths.
