Description
Scott Bernard, originally named Stick Bernard in Japanese media, was born in 2023 during humanity's space expeditions. Raised off-Earth within a generation distanced from its ancestral home, he possessed limited direct experience with the planet prior to military deployment. He trained at Mars Base Academy, idolizing veteran soldier Johnathan Wolfe, and developed a romantic relationship with Marlene Rush, proposing to her aboard the Horizon-T shuttle before their mission.
During the catastrophic Second Earth Recapture Mission in 2042, Bernard served as a lieutenant in the 21st Mars Division. Alien invaders (Inbit/Invid) decimated the fleet during atmospheric entry. Crash-landing in South America as his unit's sole survivor, he witnessed Marlene's death. This trauma fueled his resolve to complete the mission alone. A holographic pendant containing Marlene's recording became his emotional anchor during early survival struggles on an unfamiliar Earth, encountering elements like rain and thunderstorms.
Initially stranded and isolated, Bernard gradually assembled a resistance team: mechanic Jim Warston, haunted by desertion guilt; former gang member Houquet Emrose; motorcycle enthusiast Ray; cross-dressing entertainer Yellow Belmont; and orphaned adolescent Mint LaBelle. Despite initial reluctance to lead, Bernard coordinated the group toward Reflex Point in North America, the invaders' headquarters. His leadership was marked by persistent hatred toward the aliens, occasionally compromising tactical judgment.
His character developed through key relationships and revelations. Prejudice was challenged upon encountering Aisha, an amnesiac humanoid alien. Initially naming her "Marlene," Bernard developed genuine affection as she demonstrated empathy toward humans. This culminated in Aisha's sacrifice to halt the conflict, revealing the invaders' true motive of evolutionary survival rather than conquest. Simultaneously, Bernard confronted disillusionment discovering his hero Wolfe had collaborated with aliens, though Wolfe's eventual self-redemption restored Bernard's faith in humanity.
Post-conflict, Bernard participated in the Haydonite conflict (Fourth Robotech War) aboard the Icarus, reconciling with Marlene Rush's brother, Marcus Rush. Marcus initially resented Bernard's relationship with Ariel (Aisha's Robotech counterpart), though mutual respect emerged after Ariel saved Marcus in combat. Bernard later returned to Earth, inviting former teammates to search for the missing SDF-3 spacecraft; Yellow Belmont declined to pursue civilian life.
Physically, Bernard stands 178 cm tall with blood type A. His signature equipment included transformable Legioss aircraft and MOSPEADA motorcycle armor, utilized across desolate Earth landscapes and space battlegrounds.
