Description
Pedro Téllez, elderly grandfather to Nicolás Téllez, shares a humble life with his grandson in a quiet Flemish village. Following Nicolás’s orphanhood, Pedro embraces the role of caretaker despite his frail health and age, sustaining their meager existence through daily milk deliveries to Antwerp. A gentle, patient figure, he dedicates himself to Nicolás’s happiness and growth, nurturing the boy’s artistic talent and reverence for Rubens. When Nicolás rescues Patrasche, a mistreated dog, Pedro welcomes the animal into their family and work, where it becomes vital to their deliveries, deepening the trio’s interdependence.

As Pedro’s health declines, his physical frailty contrasts with his unwavering emotional resilience. He continues guiding Nicolás through hardships, from societal scorn to financial strain, until his death leaves the boy orphaned once more. This loss thrusts Nicolás into harsher isolation, burdening him with newfound responsibilities amid unrelenting poverty.

Pedro’s influence lingers in Nicolás’s resilience and compassion, a testament to their bond. His passing sharpens the narrative’s focus on fragility and endurance, framing Pedro as the quiet cornerstone whose absence irrevocably shapes Nicolás’s trials and trajectory.
