Description
Imari Kurumi begins as a shy high school student and devoted childhood friend of Taki Minase, residing next door to him. Charged by his parents with overseeing his daily routine, she wakes him for school and prepares his meals. Her long brown hair is tied in a ponytail with an orange accessory, while her eye color shifts between turquoise and green across adaptations. Though kindhearted, she conceals romantic feelings for Minase, reacting with visible jealousy when his focus strays to others. Her fragile emotions surface when confronted with his connections to classmates, prompting withdrawal. Despite her gentle nature, she wields a fierce temper, often striking Minase when provoked—a reflex honed through her Shorinji Kempo expertise, marked by a black belt and national tournament victories.

Her senior year unravels when school nurse Reika Kitami drags her into occult rituals. After observing Minase’s corruption by dark magic, Kurumi becomes Kitami’s target for a body-stealing ritual. Abducted and force-fed aphrodisiacs, she suffers sexual exploitation by Kitami’s cult. During Walpurgis Night, Kitami’s soul merges partially with hers, implanting fractured memories of the witch’s past and awakening dormant psychic powers. The possession erodes her warmth, leaving her detached, though flickers of kindness emerge around colleagues.

Post-graduation, Kurumi joins the police, employing her psychic talents to crack supernatural cases. This earns her a role as Tokken’s chief investigator, tackling paranormal crimes tied to her old academy. Kitami’s influence reignites during a bank robbery when chants revive the dormant soul within Kurumi, allowing the witch to seize control. This resurgence triggers physical alterations, including genital transformation and violent sexual impulses, exemplified by her attack on former classmate Kaori Saeki.

Her appearance evolves from a school uniform in youth to Tokken’s professional attire and civilian wear like an orange high-collared jacket, accented by consistent turquoise heels and a wristwatch. Possession shifts her wardrobe to red robes, signaling Kitami’s dominance.

Trauma and duality define her arc: assaulted by classmates, spiritually violated by Kitami, and locked in a battle for autonomy. Faculty member Hiroko Takashiro’s magical seals temporarily suppress the witch, but Kurumi’s identity remains fractured, cycling between innate empathy and imposed cruelty. Her struggle persists as a ceaseless clash between her true self and Kitami’s lingering malevolence.
