As part of his military duties, Perez assists in the kidnapping of Zia, an Incan girl, from Peru—an operation orchestrated by antagonists Commander Gomez and Captain Gaspard. These commanders deliver Zia to Spain as a royal gift before returning her to the New World on Pizarro’s orders.

Perez’s involvement occurs mainly in the expedition’s initial phases.
