Description
Bruno J. Global, of Italian descent, transitioned from the Italian Navy to the Far East Navy under Brigadier General Takashi Hayase during the United Nations Government's formation. In March 2003, he married Japanese woman Miho through arrangements by Hayase and his wife. Childless, they regarded Hayase's daughter Misa Hayase as their own. His early commands included the U.N. Navy submarine Marco Polo and later the Oberth-class space destroyer Goddard. During the Unification Wars, he ordered history's first ship-to-ship reaction weapon strike, destroying the hijacked Tsiolkovsky—an act he regretted for its civilian toll. This propelled his promotion to Brigadier General and command of the SDF-1 Macross.
On February 7, 2009, during the Macross's launch, Global advocated avoiding hostilities with potential alien species. He then executed an untested spatial fold to evade Zentradi forces, accidentally stranding the ship and its city in space. His wife Miho perished in the ensuing Zentradi ground assault. Throughout Space War I, he prioritized strategic evasion over direct combat, frequently heeding tactical counsel from First Lieutenant Misa Hayase. His leadership weathered crises like the Macross's barrier collapse that obliterated an Ontario city, resulting in U.N.-imposed exile from Earth. He later authorized the pivotal marriage between Zentradi defector Milia Fallyna and Maximilian Jenius, laying groundwork for peace.
Post-war, Global supervised Earth's reconstruction and human-Zentradi coexistence. He architected the Humanity Seeding Project, a space colonization strategy to preserve human culture against extraterrestrial threats. Rising to Admiral and U.N. Spacy commander, he became U.N. Representative in 2014. Before retiring as full Admiral, he appointed Misa Hayase captain of the colonization vessel SDF-2 Megaroad-01. His legacy includes a namesake space port in "Macross Plus" and the SDFN-4 Global ship in "Macross Frontier."
Standing 194 cm tall, he sported a mustache, grey hair, and blue eyes. He habitually smoked a pipe for concentration—defying bridge regulations and crew objections. His leadership blended military discipline with approachability, fostering familial bonds with subordinates, especially bridge personnel. He strategized calmly under pressure but embraced risks when necessary. A recurring quirk saw him bumping his head on the Macross bridge's low entrance.
