Description
Born October 10, 1993, in Yokohama, Japan, to Chinese father Lynn Paochun and a Japanese mother, Lynn Minmay grew up in her family's Chinatown restaurant, Minsharou. Aspiring to become an entertainer, she took singing, dancing, and acting lessons during middle school. She later moved to South Ataria Island to work at her relatives' "Nyan-Nyan" Chinese Restaurant.
On February 7, 2009, Minmay witnessed the SDF-1 Macross launch ceremony. Amid the subsequent Zentradi attack, she encountered U.N. Spacy pilot Hikaru Ichijyo after his Valkyrie crashed near her home. Chaotic events, including Roy Focker's intervention and another Valkyrie malfunction, trapped Minmay and Hikaru together inside a sealed section of the Macross for twelve days. With supplies dwindling, she sustained hope by singing her pre-war song "Cinderella," forging a close bond with Hikaru.
Following rescue, Minmay worked at the relocated "Nyan-Nyan" restaurant aboard the Macross to boost morale. Winning the Miss Macross beauty pageant propelled her to instant celebrity status as an idol singer and actress. Her singles "My Boyfriend is a Pilot" and "Shao Pai Long" gained immense popularity. However, her rising fame, aggressively managed by cousin Lynn Kaifun, created emotional distance from Hikaru, who had joined the U.N. Spacy. Her self-centered tendencies and career focus often led her to overlook others' feelings, including Hikaru's.
Minmay's singing became a strategic asset during Space War I. Broadcasts of her performances caused confusion and psychological disruption among the Zentradi forces, unfamiliar with human culture. This effect intensified when defecting Zentradi spies spread her music, fostering curiosity and sympathy for humanity. Her song "My Beautiful Place" convinced Zentradi commanders Vrlitwhai Kridanik and Exsedol Folmo to defect. During the final battle against Boddole Zer's fleet, her performance of "Love Drifts Away" (TV series) or "Do You Remember Love?" (film adaptation) significantly contributed to Zentradi cultural collapse and the allied victory.
After the war, Minmay struggled with fame and Earth's devastation. Weary of her celebrity status and Kaifun's demanding schedule, she broke from his management. Attempting to reconnect with Hikaru, she discovered his affections had shifted to U.N. Spacy officer Misa Hayase. Accepting this, she acknowledged their divergent paths and remained friends with the couple. In 2012, reflecting alone in an empty concert stadium, she played "Angel's Paints" on the piano, symbolizing acceptance of Hikaru's choice and her solitude.
Minmay joined the SDF-2 Megaroad-01 expedition, led by Captain Misa Hayase and Hikaru Ichijyo, on humanity's first deep-space colonization mission. The Megaroad-01 disappeared near the center of the Milky Way galaxy in July 2016, cementing Minmay's status as a legendary figure whose music influenced future generations.
In the film *The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?*, Minmay is an established idol singer from the outset, performing aboard the Macross. She meets Hikaru when he rescues her during an attack, leading to their entrapment. Later captured by the Zentradi alongside Hikaru, Misa, Kaifun, and Roy Focker, she remained in custody after the others escaped during a Meltrandi assault. Implied to have shared human culture and music with the Zentradi during captivity, she acted inadvertently as an envoy. Upon return to the Macross, she realized Hikaru's feelings for Misa. Initially refusing Hikaru's plea to sing the Protoculture song "Do You Remember Love?" against Boddole Zer, wishing instead to escape with him, she agreed after his confrontation. Her performance galvanized defecting Zentradi and Meltrandi forces.
The OVA *Flash Back 2012* depicted her final moments on Earth in 2012, including her reflective piano performance and departure on the Megaroad-01, reinforcing her acceptance of her legacy and choice to leave Earth behind, with a vision of her younger self symbolizing closure.
