Born October 10, 1993, in Yokohama's Chinatown, Lynn Minmei (also spelled Minmay) was the daughter of Chinese restaurant manager Lynn Paochun and his Japanese wife Shigeyo. Her name carried the Chinese meaning "bright and beautiful bell." Trained in singing, dancing, and acting during middle school, she later moved to South Ataria Island before Space War I, working at her aunt and uncle's "Nyan-Nyan" Chinese Restaurant while pursuing entertainment ambitions. During the Zentradi attack on February 7, 2009, Minmei encountered UN Spacy pilot Hikaru Ichijyo after his Valkyrie crashed near her restaurant. Trapped together aboard the SDF-1 Macross following an accidental space fold, she lifted spirits by singing "Cinderella." After rescue, she reopened the Nyan-Nyan restaurant to boost civilian morale and won the first Miss Macross contest, launching her idol singing and acting career. Her popularity soared through films like "Shao Pai Long" ("Little White Dragon") and songs like "My Boyfriend is a Pilot." Minmei's fame strained her relationship with Hikaru, worsened by her self-centered tendencies and reliance on manager/cousin Lynn Kaifun. During the war, her music unintentionally influenced Zentradi defectors such as Vrlitwhai Kridanik and Exsedol Folmo, aiding peace efforts. Her performance of "My Beautiful Place" comforted Macross citizens, while "Love Drifts Away" during Earth's final battle marked a cultural turning point. Post-war, Minmei battled depression amid Earth's devastation. Touring small venues with the abusive Kaifun left her disillusioned; she sought refuge with Hikaru, proposing they abandon their lives. His rejection during Khyron's attack prompted her realization that singing remained her true calling, leading her to accept Hikaru's relationship with Misa Hayase. In the 2012 OVA *Flash Back 2012*, Minmei gave a farewell concert before departing on the SDF-2 Megaroad-01. A poignant scene featured her playing "Angel's Paints" ("Tenshi no Enogu") on piano in an empty stadium, symbolizing acceptance of Hikaru and Misa's marriage. She joined them as a civilian on the Megaroad-01, waving goodbye to Earth. The colony ship vanished in July 2016 during its galactic voyage, cementing her legendary status. Physically, Minmei stood 158 cm tall, weighed 47 kg, and possessed black hair with green eyes. She played piano and keyboard, often wearing traditional cheongsams alongside stage costumes. Her legacy endured through dolls modeled after her and cultural references to her morale-boosting role, drawing comparisons to figures like Vera Lynn.
