Dolza commanded as Supreme Commander of the Zentraedi military throughout the First Robotech War, directing millions of ships and troops across the Robotech Masters' empire. His core mission was executing the Masters' directive to recover the Protoculture Matrix. To achieve this, he dispatched Commander Breetai to track down Zor's missing battlefortress, which had crashed on Earth and been transformed by humans into the SDF-1. Humanity remained unknown to Dolza personally until Breetai captured Lisa Hayes, Rick Hunter, and Ben Dixon, presenting them for interrogation. Dolza questioned the prisoners on Protoculture and human society. Witnessing a kiss between Rick and Lisa provoked his disgust at their cultural practices, contributing to his resolve to eradicate humanity, believing its influence corrupted Zentraedi forces. After repeated failures by Breetai and Commander Azonia to seize the SDF-1, Dolza reinstated Breetai and furnished him with a fleet of one million ships, ostensibly to continue the mission. Secretly, however, Dolza intended to annihilate Breetai, Azonia, Khyron, and all Zentraedi tainted by human culture. He mobilized the colossal Imperial Grand Fleet, exceeding four million ships, positioning it in Earth's orbit. Dolza initiated his assault by ordering the bombardment of Earth, devastating its surface and obliterating approximately 90% of human life. During the battle, the SDF-1 and its allies broadcast Lynn Minmei's music performances, disorienting the Zentraedi fleet. Dolza perished when the SDF-1 counterattacked his flagship, an event that destroyed the majority of his fleet.
