André Luiz Chapéu, born André Luiz Camargo Ribeiro on December 11, 1940, in Salvador, Bahia, was a prominent Brazilian voice actor whose career flourished from the 1960s until his passing in 1991. Before gaining recognition for his voice work, he worked as a journalist and announcer for Repórter Esso in Bahia and later as a costume designer at TV Tupi in Rio de Janeiro. It was during this period in Rio that he acquired the nickname "Chapéu," which was eventually incorporated into his professional name.

He began his dubbing career in the 1970s, working at renowned studios such as Herbert Richers, Telecine, and Peri Filmes. His voice, described as strong and well-suited for both comedic and villainous roles, became a staple in Brazilian versions of numerous animated series and films throughout the 1980s. Among his most iconic and enduring roles were Tigrão in As Novas Aventuras do Ursinho Puff, Brutus in Popeye, and Sr. Wilson in Dennis, o Pimentinha.

In the realm of anime, André Luiz Chapéu contributed significantly to the Brazilian Portuguese dubs of classic science fiction series. He voiced the character Comandante Todo in Patrulha Estelar, the Brazilian title for the series Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars. His work on Patrulha Estelar was part of the dubbing production by Herbert Richers for the show's broadcast on Rede Manchete. He also lent his voice to two key characters in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Capitão Bruno J. Global and the Zentradi leader Dolza. These roles placed him within the casts of some of the most influential anime series to be localized for Brazilian audiences during that era.

His extensive filmography also included voice work in other animated series, such as Brainiac in O Desafio dos Super Amigos and various characters in He-Man and She-Ra, as well as the villain Claw in the Chuck Norris animated series. Beyond animation, his voice was recognizable in live-action productions, where he dubbed actors like Telly Savalas in Kojak, Yaphet Kotto in Alien, o Oitavo Passageiro, and James Hong in Os Aventureiros do Bairro Proibido. He was also the voice of the character Parker in the first dubbing of the film Alien.

André Luiz Chapéu's career was marked by a strong and recurring collaboration with the Herbert Richers studio, where many of his most famous characters were dubbed. His work is remembered for its quality and the distinctive, memorable quality of his voice. He was forced to retire from voice acting in the early 1990s due to health issues and passed away on August 20, 1991, in his hometown of Salvador.
