Description
Redon, exiled prince of Da'nan and son of Lord Haven and Lady Meira, witnessed his parents' massacre during an attack on the royal castle. This drove him to vow revenge and answer a mysterious call from the god Barbas, tearing open the Gods' Wall to enter Crystania with companions Nasare, Kwairde, Aderishia, Raifan, and Obier.
He exhibits deep sensitivity and impulsiveness, forming intense bonds with humans and animals. His lifelong fear and hatred of death originated in childhood when he witnessed a family pet cat die, manifesting in visceral reactions to threats against friends and frequent tearful outbursts. His affinity for animals is reflected in bonds with his horse Grabia and a pet dog. Grabia's death during the journey to Dayton Castle profoundly impacted him, though he mourned only briefly before resuming his mission.
In Crystania, he sought answers about the summoning voice but immediately faced lizard men violence. Obier triggered his anger by giving him his deceased father's sword. After intervening in Sheru's (formerly Pirotess) battle, he allied with her, learning of Crystania's shape-shifting inhabitants and history. When Barbas destroyed a village to demonstrate power, Redon attempted to save enemy commander Rio, rejecting unnecessary death despite her demise.
His defining moment came at Dayton Castle when Barbas offered unlimited revenge power in exchange for killing Sheru. He refused and attacked Barbas, enabling Sheru to defeat the god. This choice pivoted his quest from revenge to protection. Post-Barbas, he worked as a blacksmith until unexplained voices and attacks by sealed monsters prompted a journey to the Cave of the Sealed, where he located Aderishia and encountered twins Irim and Kirim.
The twins' transformations tested him severely. Irim became a "Key of Crystania" and sacrificed himself to a mystical dome, while Kirim grew wings to ferry souls. Redon failed to stop Irim but briefly persuaded Kirim to stay before she accepted her destiny. His anguish over their fates reflected his struggle against Crystania's cruelties.
Accompanying Sheru to the Chaos World to free Ashram, he confronted deepest fears: reliving childhood trauma and facing death illusions until Kirim rescued him. In Ashram's "heart castle," he battled an illusion of Beld while Sheru reached Ashram, contributing to Barbas's final defeat and Crystania's cycle reset.
Across media, contrasts emerge: novels portray greater ambition and challenges to Crystania's societal structures, while anime adaptations emphasize emotional vulnerability and rejection of the world's fatalism, particularly regarding Kirim's transformation.
