Description
Lady Kayura, born December 12, 1559, in Japan's Nara Province (formerly Yamato), was the final descendant of the Kaos clan led by the Ancient One. Innate mystical abilities marked her as the clan's intended successor. Her village near Lake Mitama along the Yamato Road faced attack from the demon lord Arago (Talpa), who sought her power. The assault killed her parents and clan before abducting her to the Youja World (Nether Realm).
Within the Nether Realm, Arago and his subordinate Badamon suppressed her memories using a magical amulet and chest plate, erasing her past. Trained as a weapon under their control, she resided in the "Star Palace," often treated as a living doll clad in a twelve-layered kimono when not in battle. Corrupted, she bore red streaks around her eyes symbolizing the Dynasty's influence. She wielded twin jitte named Sei Rei Ken (Beautiful Star Swords/Starlight Swords), capable of magical extension when drawn. Her primary attack, Ran Sei Zan (Storm Star Slash/Star Sword Scream), manifested as swirling energy or water waves, often accompanied by wisteria or stardust imagery.
Initially opposing the protagonists with arrogance and loyalty to Arago, her control weakened after White Blaze scratched her amulet. This caused her to question her allegiance and sense residual emotions, crying when protagonists were endangered. A critical confrontation saw Ryo Sanada shatter her chest plate, breaking the memory seal and resurfacing her childhood memories. Badamon forcibly possessed her body to maintain control.
Kayura achieved full redemption through the sacrifice of Anubis (Shutendōji), the Dark Warlord of Cruelty. As Badamon possessed her in battle, Anubis used his life force to break the possession. He transferred his Armor of Cruelty (Oni armor) to her before dying, permanently freeing Kayura from the Dynasty's influence and erasing the red streaks from her eyes. Inheriting Anubis' armor and the Ancient One's staff (shakujo), she allied with the protagonists against Arago. She rallied the reformed Dark Warlords—Shuten, Rajura, and Naaza—to aid in Arago's final defeat.
Following Arago's downfall, Kayura returned to the Nether Realm with the former Dark Warlords to restore balance and peace, honoring the legacies of the Ancient One and Anubis. In later continuations like the manga *Shin Yoroiden Samurai Troopers*, she mentored the new bearer of the Wildfire Armor. Her design features deep blue hair and eyes, standing 158 cm (5'2") tall and weighing 44 kg (97 lbs). She dislikes slugs and enjoys traditional Japanese dance. Her fighting style is associated with spring and wisteria motifs. Post-redemption, her armor combines dark gray and blue plates with a brown-and-gold jacket overlay; while armored, she wields a kusarigama (scythe with chain).
In the OVA *Message*, her role expanded as a guardian linked to the mystical entity Suzunagi, reinforcing her clan legacy connection. Japanese publications note her representation of the virtue "Ai" (Love), exclusive to manga adaptations.
