Raquel Marinho
Description
Raquel Marinho is a highly experienced Brazilian voice actress, born on February 11, 1979, in São Paulo. She began her career in theater before entering the world of dubbing after a successful test at the Álamo studio. With a career spanning several decades, she has become one of the most recognized voices in the Brazilian dubbing industry, also working as a dubbing director and continuity announcer for the Sony Entertainment Television channel in Brazil.
Marinho's filmography is extensive, particularly in the realm of anime, where she has lent her voice to a wide array of characters. She is known for her role as Chi Chi in the long-running Dragon Ball franchise, including Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and several related films. In the series My Hero Academia, she voices the pro-hero Midnight. Her other notable anime roles include Inari in Kemono Jihen, Tao Jun in Shaman King, the mother of Adachi in Adachi and Shimamura, Henrietta in Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table, and Millavair Lou Nebulis VIII in Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World.
Marinho has also been the voice for Officer Jenny in various iterations of the Pokémon anime, such as Pokémon: Black and White and its Rival Destinies season. Her work extends to films and OVAs, with roles like Angela Miller in Resident Evil: Degeneration, Leika Chan in The Mystical Laws, Izanami in The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon, and multiple characters in the cyberpunk OVA Genocyber, including Diana and Ellen Reed. Further demonstrating her range, she is credited as the voice of Berta Kastner/009-4 in 009-1, Remi Mizuchi in Sukeban Deka, Lady Kaira (Kayura) in Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers, Miruru in I'm Gonna Be An Angel, Pinky in Bucky - The Incredible Kid, Dr. Michi Kanzaki in Detonator Orgun, Sayaka Kitadouji in Battle Skipper, Rumi in Immoral Sisters, Narusha in Popolocrois Monogatari, Narradora in The Super Milk-chan Show, and a young mother in the film Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. She also voiced Márcia Saotome in Shooting Starlets Musumet.
Beyond her work in anime, Marinho's voice is familiar to audiences of live-action series and films. She has dubbed numerous Hollywood actresses, including Penélope Cruz, Eva Mendes, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Zooey Deschanel in various productions. She is also the voice of Meg Griffin in the Brazilian version of the animated series Family Guy.
In a 2008 interview discussing her role in Resident Evil: Degeneration, Marinho noted that her approach to voice acting involves adapting her voice to fit the character, such as using a firmer, heavier tone for the serious police officer Angela Miller, a contrast to her own more delicate speaking voice. She has also taken on directing roles, serving as an ADR director for the Portuguese version of Dragon Ball Z Kai. Her contributions to the field make her a prolific and versatile figure in Brazilian dubbing.
